I have an old sword that has a Knights helmet hallmark on the blade. There is termite damage. Is this a Kirschbaum?I can't seem to post pictures here.I can forward them from my phone.

Host your pics on a pic site and post them up!

I use tinypic but there are many. You will have better luck with ID.

Hope it helps

The blade mark is most likely the Kirschbaum mark. Although a bit dated, Mike McWatters good pages offer lists of makers and marks as well as examples of swords of the 19th century.

Feel free to send me pictures at gcleeton@gmail.com and I will get them up here.

I would guess that you have a cavalry sword in hand, as those were the primary export by Kirschbaum at the time. That is not an absolute but a likely hunch. If it is not of the three bar cavalry type hilt, my second guess would be a non-regulation officer sword with an eagle with banner in the half basket British gothic hilt type.

Cheers
