A chum of mine inherited an interesting sword from his dad. It'd be nice to try and obtain some information on it. Is it possible to submit a couple of its pictures here ? If so, then please provide some guidance on how to do so.

Thanks,
Spiggy.

From HERE

To post a picture:

a: Upload or FTP it to your webspace. Your Internet Service Provider probably provides you with 5 or 10 MB of free space; if not, use a free photo-host site such as:
http://www.photobucket.com or http://www.photopoint.com

b: click in the address window of the picture's web page to copy the picture's URL using CTRL-C.

c: Use *file|open* to check that this is the correct URL. (Paste the URL into the file|open dialogue box using CTRL-V, then click go and see what happens.)

d: Then come to the forum, click on POST REPLY at the top of an earlier post, (or POST NEW TOPIC -- if it is a completely new topic; ALWAYS USE REPLY TO ADD A PICTURE OR REPLY TO AN EXISTING THREAD).

e: In the message window, paste the url. THEN

f: bracket the URL with the *UBB image codes.

UBB uses [ ] not < >

Don't forget the /slash in the closing tag only.

But first you need to upload your pictures, and make sure you have the URL's correct.

Note: clicking the "Picture Postcard" button on the reply page (under the size arrow) will automatically add the IMG tags. Just paste your pic's URL in the interactive window, after clicking the Image link.

Thank you, buddy, for your very kind help. I'll get onto it this weekend.

Have a good one !

Ciao.

Hello Ron_M80

I've just shown your kind suggestion as above to my wife ( she's much more up to speed on IT than I am ).

She's a tad doubtful as to our being able to comply due to the limitations that come with iPads . I suggested that I email the pics to her pc at work, but her firm does not permit access to forums.

Would it be at all feasible to send the three pics to you directly at your own email address and then you submit them to this forum ? That'd be very helpful.

Cheers, Spiggy.

You shouldn't have any problem with using an iPad to upload to Photobucket.

Yup. There's probably an official app for photobucket. I can upload direct from my phone to my photobucket account (and do on a regular basis).

Hi,

I've opened a Photobucket account and the sword pics are now on it. Unfortunately I don't know how to transmit the pics from there to here. Therefore, I shall give my photobucket account username for anyone whom would like to view the sword pics.
The sword is 2.5 pounds in weight and the blade length is 35.5 inches. Unless any wood or leather / fish skin binding of the hilt has rotted away it appears to be entirely of metal construction. Any comments on the sword would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Click on picture. There should be four series of links for pictures. One will begin with . Use that one.[/QUOTE]

Hi guys,

As per the kind help offered above, here are the five sword pictures. Comments on it are very welcome. Cheers.

I'd like to see the entire sword, and you might try sword forum international and "my armory" also

Difficult to say exactly what it is without a picture of the entire blade, but it looks to me as a 1796 pattern light cavalry sword blade with a talwar handle.

Inteesting thought and plausible for sure. I wouldn't be able to even begin to guess that from the short length of blade pictured.

Thank you , guys, for your input. I'll submit a picture of the sword in its entirety.

It is just a guess, but it was quite common for 19th century British blades to end up in Indian hands as the quality and price was commonly much better than on locally produced blades.
From what little i can see the grind and type of fuller on this particular blade is more or less exactly the same as what you see on a British light cavalry saber from the 19th century.

If the blade is straight it is likely a firanghi-the spur on the pommel is for the other hand, like a hand-1/2 sword.
I've never seen a talwar with that pommel. Cool sword.

Hello guys,

I'm still trying to get a full length picture of the sword from its owners. Thanks for your help.
