Sword Info?

You have a Japanese sword, mounted in what looks to be WWII officer furniture (sheath and hilt). Most of these blades were factory produced at the time, but some of the blades were remounted Samarai swords.

The markings on the tang would be the maker's signature. That would lead us to believe that we are looking at a remounted samarai piece. The remounted pieces can be very old and valuable. However, many of these signatures have been faked, and there is a wide variation in valuation for the specific signatures.

Hopefully, someone can tell you what it says and if its a desirable maker, you can then decide whether to pursue appraisal and certification.

Do you see any signs of a star shaped arsenal stamp? That would be a clear indication if it's a mass produced piece. However the lack of such a stamp does not mean it's valuable.

I would try posting at swordforum.com they have a few experts that can help youout.

Thanks for all the help and useful sword links. I will be sending them detailed information and will keep you informed of the outcome. I have several arsenal produced officer's swords and I will use the sword links to obtain information on them also.
