Gentlemen,
I picked up this sword recently and can find very little information on it. I don't really know if it is a Model 1883. Here is the information I received from the seller:
"Swiss sword Model 1883. Ray or shark skin wire wrapped grip, with red and white rope still hanging from hilt. Sword stamped Waffenfabrik Neuhausen on one side of blade with other side of blade stamped 10167 over 26. Swiss cross on blade. Steel scabbard and leather frog. The frog is stamped E. Vollm. Sellier, Sonvillier."
The blade is approx 28" long and unsharpened. The metal scabbard is in very good shape. I've been able to find almost nothing on the web. I'm guessing it was made during the first half of the 20th century. It appears like it would be functional and isn't just decorative. Can anyone tell me the approximate age of this sword or anything else about it.
Sorry - I didn't realize I couldn't attach pictures. Here is a link to post on another forum. http://www.swordforum.com/forums/showthread.php?108205-Swiss-1883
Thanks,
Lynn Westfall
