I inherited this sword from my grandfather about 16 years ago and have kept in my safe for most of that time, after reading another thread asking for help I decided to post pics of the sword I have. From what I understand it belonged to my Great Grandfather who came to Africa when he was in the Royal Navy, not sure how accurate that is as we dont have much family history info available.

Any other information regarding this sword would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the pics arnt great, my appologies

Looks like a British Enfield Rifle Pattern 1859 Cutlass Bayonet

It looks like a rare and valuable sword bayonet. A English Pattern 1859 Naval Cutlass bayonet. Unfortunately, they have been reproduced heavily, and the reproductions are fairly good and hard to spot.

Thank you very much, more information than anyone else has ever been able to give me...much appreciated!

Head on over to Bernard Livingston (SP) sub forum on here.

Best place to get an ID, possibly even hear if you have the real deal. Hopefully it is, since it is from your grandpa.
