Hello,

I already browsed this forum and got some ideeas, but could you please give me an answer for the following question?
Who makes (or where can I get) a katana with these characteristics:
- good cutting performance
- well made, nice finish, hamon and fittings
- under $1500

Thanks a lot. :)

Thank you Robert! I really like the looks of the sword from odinblades.com!

No problems, John will know who I am if you mention me...his a great guy to chat with, and has a real passion with his sword craftsmenship.

Post pictures of it if you end up ordering one :D

Odin has very nice stuff. Here is another maker who tends to get little airtime due to petty issues perpetrated by some of the more popular forums. Check out the site in depth. Join and ask in the forums there what his customers think.

1500 dollars won't buy you a katana from any of the top makers but you can get a very nice production sword for that amount. I would second the thought of wandering over to www.bugei.com. I would also spend rather a lot of time researching the issue and deciding what you want in the sword and probably more importantly what you want the sword for. Form follows function in katana just like anything else.

Bugei are made by the same factory, but infinitely better in the fact you can buy to suit your martial training (ie. I require a 31" blade with around a 11.5" tsuka) so for my needs a wave katana would be my best option. Paul chen are great for entry level tameshigiri blades, but ultimately they arnt as impressive as bugei's sword line.

So you're saying a Paul Chen won't fit the bill for the man

it depends on what his needs are, I'm just saying when you got the money dont cheap out completely and buy lessor quality. thats like being given the choice between a sebbie and a no name brand made in pakistan.

Hi guys,

I have already seen Paul Chen katanas, they are really well made for the price but I was aiming a bit higher.
I got a reasonable quote for a custom made katana at odinblades.com so I'm happy now :D I'll make sure to post pics and impressions once I get it.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :D Trust me when I say you WONT be disappointed...I'm currently saving several thousand for one of his folded katana, thats a while off though lol.

Flava did you make an order? I was on the phone to David of odd frog forge and he mentioned an order with an Island theme? just curious i guess ;)
