Today the mailman arrived and my wife practically plotzed (a technical term) when she saw the $#(#$# box. Acquired as UBBBs on 2/10/05 (thanks Bill and Yangdu for such incredibly prompt shipping)

This is the first sword I've owned. I wouldn't have bought one but I love HI products, the price was right, and I should have at least one sword, should I not?

Anyhoo, both the sword and Rose I sharked a few days ago are here and man, they are awesome. I only regret I can't find more use for the sword, but I didn't get it for that. It is a heck of a blade.

And the Rose...more beautiful in the flesh than she is on screen. Isn't that the case with all HI products? They are much more beautiful and great in reality than the pictures can ever do justice to. I just *love* the Rose visually and esthetically.

I have a few questions.

1. What differences are there in the way the sword blade is treated as opposed to khuks?

2. How much hard use can you put the Rose to? Is the tip softer like khuks, so it won't snap off too easily?

I did a few etch and polish cycles on my EK and found that the hardened zone is similar - it starts a few inches from the bolster and stops short an inch or so from the tip. If you hit something hard other than on the COP, you'll feel more vibration in the blade than you would with a khuk - whether this is due to length, a thinner blade, or both, I'm not sure.

I never did etch my Rose (actually, maybe I did, now that I think about it) but the first day I had it, the cat knocked it off my workbench and half an inch or so of tip snapped off. The good news is, it was a blem (rusted tip) and it wound up looking even better with the new tip I ground on. No issues since, but I wouldn't thrash a Rose (or the EK, for that matter) with quite the vigor I apply to my khuks.

Both handle beer cans efficiently.

The tip on mine is soft enough to bend a bit and be rebent to original without notice. I dropped mine and it bent a few degrees at the very tip and it went back to true with a whack from a mallet.
