I've got some pics of antique swords my uncle left me, and I know nothing about them. How do I post pics here?

Upload them to a free image hosting website like Photobucket. Then use the image code button to post the URL of the image. :)

Thanks. I'd asked about them in this forum earlier and some members asked me for pics, so I'm giving it a try.

Hi Rick,

Consider registering at www.swordforum.com then visiting the Antique&Military room here. They are not a board for appraisals but a lot of thoughts and information can be shared and found there. The three range from possibly as early as the late 18th century for the cross hatched grip one and as late as the early 20th century for the one with the canted grip butt and hole in the quillion. Why am I thinking Russian? I dunno but some may quite easily. The first with the tabs from the backstrap pinned to the grip is similar to British 1821 cavalry and artillery/engineer swords in basic profile but this is not one of them.

I can't place them off the top of my head but they are not Btitish or French patterns. Another site to browse but you will have to register for sections of is http://www.oldswords.com/

I'm not able to make much of the marks from those pictures but the crest or initials on the butt of that one may best place it in time and origin.

Good luck with them

That's very helpful, thank you. I'll check into those forums. My late uncle once told me that one of the swords came from the foundry of Czar Nickolas(?), if that makes sense. Unfortunately, I didn't pay as much attention to what he said as I should have. He himself was half Thai and half British.
