Hey, Ya'll.

I am working a local gun and knife show next week, and just KNOW we'll see Katanas and other swords there. Where should I direct folks looking for sharpening and polishing of antique swords? I do a great job at knives and some European broadsword work, and edging fantasy display swords. I DO NOT have the chops to work on antique items. I admit it! The sharpeners version of the Hippocratic oath, "Do no harm!"
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The only ones I am aware of whom have completed the full apprenticeship in Japan are Jimmy Hayashi, Bob Benson and John Bowhay (it is my understanding Bowhay has returned to Japan).

Bob Benson and his deshi Byron Shimizu and Woody hall are found here: http://www.bushidojapaneseswords.com/swordpolish.htm

There is at least one fully trained Japanese polisher in Canada.

There are other stateside and Canadian polishers such as Moses Becerra, Chris Osborn, Louis Skebo, Ted Tenold, Keith Larman. Some work on older blades some work on only newer blades some work on both.
