I'm making a fantasy pirate sword for a friend. Now that everything is working out I thought I'd post the pictures of my progress. The blade is 1085.

The guard is a piece of 01 I had and the cup is from the panel to a fuse box. The guard is my first attempt at metal shaping with a forge besides putting the curve into this blade.

Nice work so far; will be nice to see it finished. Will you be blueing the guard? I would think O1 would want some sort of a finish to help prevent corrosion.

Thanks guys! I am going to leave the scale from the forge on the guard, but everything else will get a vinegar patina.

Thanks David! Here's what I have so far today, I think I'll work on the handle next, and lastly the pommel.

Thanks Matthew! It's coming along. I've got some final polishing up and I'm going to patina everything.

The pommel came out a little blocky, so that is something I would change next time. I'm going to put an electro-chemical etcher together to etch the guard and pommel, though, so hopefully that will make it look a little cooler!

It is sharpened up now, though, and I have chopped through some thick cardboard tubes and 2 inch branches. This thing is a little scary with how effective it is!

Thanks guys! The pins are in the middle of the tang, but they look off center because of the curvature of the handle.

Very cool project Nix! It definitely looks like it will be a good user and perform well...:thumbup:
