er that sword in the vid, the one that did my first-of-many 2 by 4 one-hitters is A8mod/TLS chipper steel

the one in the still photo is 8670m banite which I'm moving away from because of its fast quench requirements though it really is fine steel, will replace it with either S7, Diamondwear, or CPM3V, though I'm open to suggestions! I like 5160 too but it also needs a fast quench.
 
hmmn, if you mean test chop then you have to use one that's not fully finished. Wood always has a bit of grit... I guess if you wanted to try something soft like clean tatami it would be ok. If you just want to handle one to get a feel for it (btw they are handmade; any feel can be produced; costs a bit more for distal taper and lots of curve but anything can be had).

I'll be at Blade 2009!!! (oops but the table was short notice, might not have a sword cleaned up). Also Canadian Knifemakers Guild March 2010... I don't have to cross the border for that one so I load my table up.
