Hey guys, I just wanted to brag and show a couple of pictures of some ugly steel wasters that I made for myself and a few friends to train with.

They are made out of 1/4th inch steel and a few of them I machined in some fullers to take the weight off from them and to improve the balance with a nice heavy pommel.

Mine is the baskethilt :D

And length comparasion to an old cane sword that I had on me at the time.

So whatcha guys think? (outside of holy crap those are heavy to swing around)

Kudos for going ahead and making your own- bet you learned a lot!

yeah, considering since I managed to talk on the phone while using the milling machine and it got away from me. And it screwed up the basket hilt. I still tried to hide it with a grinder but it's still ugly.

I just wish that I have had some time to get some practice in, everything has been hectic lately.

I built the basket hilt becuase I'm working with a pirate group up here and they take a bench grinder to the CS 1917 cutlass, and I just didn't want to destroy one of those to work with them.

They look completely serviceable; I'm not sure why you had to make them look ugly-nice to boot! :D Nice job.

I didn't heat treat them. They are just mild steel, and I just don't have a space big enough to heat treat them in my shop. (I figured that they will hold up for a few demos durring the fair season and go from there.)

Glad you guys like them. I never gotten around to posting pictures of the ones that I whipped up out of aluminum.

I am very impressed with your work. They do indeed look very serviceable. You could give Badger Blades a run for their money. I would like to know their lengths, weights and balance point. You will need a food scale to get a sensitive enough measure of weight.

The weight and balance will be important in your training. You may need to make make some minor modifications if it too much off.

I'll whip out a tape measure when I have a little extra time right off hand. (They are at a friends place for the time being.)

As for the exact weight, all I can say is heavy. I have a nice food scale, but my wife would be highly miffed if I messed with it. (but I'll see what I can swing)

Glad you like them)

Well, it looks like I gotta get them heat treated.

We bent the short one, but for the most part they held up well to fighting.
