Swords with oddly angled blades

I posted some photos of an old 19th century police hanger on the thread below. Notice that the blade on this example is mounted at a slight angle. It is a very old sword so perhaps this is merely damage, or defective manufacture, however it does raise an interesting question. Were swords ever intentionally mounted with angled blades?

It's weird, I have a sword that was dated to before 1880 and the blade is also angled like that. Don't know why or what purpose it would serve though.
