A landmark tree is coming down in my town and I'd like to get some of its wood for a project. Any experiance with it?
Thanks

Sutcliffe, I have been using Sycamore (spalted) as handle material for about 3 years. I normally open the hole up pretty big (hidden tang) and seal inside (full tang) before I assemble knife/handle. It is a light, soft, but tough wood. You might also send some (the nicest pieces) off to be stablized. Any way you choose, natural or stablized, it makes for a beautiful addition on a knife. Sutcliffe,

I saw that tree in the Mercury News today.
Nice to know that there are a few other Smiths in the area!
