so i am starting to really get into short stout blades such as the sage series. i wanted to now if there was a version of the ambitious in a better steel or other spydercos with the short stout leaf shaped blades. thank you very much.

The Techno is a favorite. Not leaf shaped, but definitely short and stout. The Leafstorm is kind of rare, but really cool.

When it comes to the Ambitious/Tenacious/Resilience/Persistence, they are ALL 8cr13mov. You can find them with blue G10 or green G10. Brown, now too.

BTW, good choice with Spyderco...you won't regret it.

you know, i am really digging the techno but the only thing that kills me is the price tag. but i know at some point i will buy myself a techno. but either way the only 8cr13mov ive really messed with was kershaws and it was superb. how is spydercos 8cr13mov?

The Dragonfly2 and the Chaparral both have leaf shaped blades and are both awesome. The Chap has really fine and thin CTS-XHP and the DF2 comes in ZDP-189 and the HAP40 Sprint should be coming out soon. Both are also smaller than the Sage Series knives.

I also really like the Manix 2 leaf shaped blade, and it is a larger knife than the Sage.

Kershaw AND Spyderco do 8cr very well

Spyderco as a brand is quite steel-centric. In other words, they pay serious attention to blade/steel performance. Youre good to go in that dept.

You can get a like new Dice for around $130 on the exchange. Fits your description to a T.

Plus one on the Chaparral. I have one in TI and love it!

Native 5 is hard to beat IMO. Short, stout leaf blade in S35VN. Can be had in either G-10/steel liners or LW FRN scales.

the domino is a little shorter version of the manix 2,but also uses a flipper to ad in opening the knife,it also comes with one of the best steels CTS-XHP on the market!i carry the domino or the native 5/G-10 in my pocket most days.:)

Dragonfly 2 with G10 scales is perfect for me. I've got bigger knives I carry when I'm out in the woods, but for a real EDC I love the Dragonfly. It looks good, I can completely palm it when I'm cutting something (thumb over blade), and it really is a "big little knife". Honestly there are times when I reach for it over bigger knives because the belly of the blade and the small size give me way more control. Also, did I mention it looks great? Additionally, with the clip removed, it disappears in my pocket. I'll add that where I'm from folks aren't always so psyched to see a big knife, so I feel like this one does the trick without freaking anyone out.

i just got done looking at them and man oh man i woulda loved the Nishijin Glass Fiber one. (bladehq)

Dragonfly (2.25") matches up with the Ambitious well. Comes in a choice of VG10, H1, ZDP189, and HAP40.

The Native 5 (3") is definitely a stout short leaf bladed Spyderco. And comes in a choice of S35V, S90V, and S110V steels.

Dragonfly 2 with G10 scales is perfect for me.

I have the ZDP Dragonfly2 and the G10, the ZDP is in my pocket every minute that I'll awake and dressed. The G10 in Foliage is my going out dressed up knife.

The Dragonfly and the Native couldn't be more different. I recently acquired the Native4 FRN and it's a handful, literally, even the FRN Native is a hand filling solid and sturdy knife. The Dragonfly2 is like working with a fine scalpel or a straight razor, you use your index finger and thumb guides the knife and the blade crazy sharp does all the rest.

The Dragonfly 2, Native 5, Manix 2, Chaparral, and the Sage series are all great knives with leaf shaped blades.

Also the Dice and Domino if you like framelocks.

And the Aitor Castor slipjoints, they have a nice leaf blade.
