I read something about this Free Rein somewhere on the Blade forum and went to the Busse site to have a look, and I immedately put an order in for one. This thing looks pretty amazing and I had been thinking about getting a short sword for some time, but never saw anything that I thought would be very useful or looked this good. Anyone else out there planning to get one? Have you thought about a sheath and who might be able to make one for it? I am considering making one from wood; maybe even wood with a kydex liner. Looks like I have a few months to think about it for the order to go through, but I am pretty excited at the possibilities.

Got mine on order, too!

Some great sheath makers here. I can unequivocally recommend azwelke azwelke ….I bet he is getting one of these swords himself, to use for sheath making.

I'd never heard of the Free Rein until this post, but I'm probably gonna hafta get one myself. If you go Kydex for a sheath, Al Welke and David Brown are long-time legends in the art.

My go-to kydex guy is VJT here on the forums, the molded tip-of-sheath drain hole is my prefered type...and his quality is second to none. I probably won't buy a side-drilled drain hole sheath for the rest of my life.

Thank you👍
I do front tip vertical drain holes by request.
I have done quite a few of them.
Thank you,
Al

Free Rein - not for me. I hate to say it...but the only thing I found appealing was the patterned Res-C. I can appreciate change; but not...this

I like the Free Rein, But I'm pretty content with my SR-101 Raw Dog TnT-15, Stonewashed OMG-15 + a really nice steak dinner for the same price. But that's not to say the Free Rein isn't worth the price. It will be interesting to see what the Steel aficionados have to say about this new steel + the Busse heat treat once these make it out into the wild.

I'm also content with my Raw Dog TNT-15, and looking at the specs, this looks to be not as blade heavy which is an automatic pass from me. That, and the price is too steep for me. I'd have been more tempted if it was in SR-101 and priced accordingly.

Im imagining the extra inch would balance out woth the fuller/slight weight reduction. Id guess it would be about the same balance point/ blade heaviness as the tnt

Well, I had to do it. I just bought a TNT15 off the forum. I will post pictures of them both once I have them. I also ordered a kydex sheath from AZWELKE for the Free Rein. That sould do it for me for a while, I hope.

Yep ordered mine day 1.. now the wait is killing me. I just want an update as to what week we are in. Assuming that the wait is 14 weeks. And a demo vid would be an awesome late Christmas gift to us all. 😀
