Symetric Grinds

Ok, by now some of you hogs should have some good "field use" with your Fusion NOs. I must say that after using a SH-E and BM-E for a few years now, I have really grown accustomed to the asymetric convex edge. I just want some opinions from some of you Fusion NO owners who also liked the old asymetric grind. I'm really not sure which edge to go with on the new line.

Butcher,

While I have not used a SFNO as yet, I have used sym grinds from Busse in the past and I am a big advocate of the asym grind.

That said, I have not had a problem with the sym grinds... but I prefer the asym grind for ease of maintanence, durability of edge, and for chopping efficiency. I prefer to sharpen one edge and strop the other in the field... one guy's opinion. I wasn't always an asym fan. When I bought my SH1 10+ years ago, I thought I had a factory second. It grew on me fast though.

don't have a sfno but for a big blade i would want the asym. edge (too much use of an e-handle ;) ) but for a smaller blade would want a standard edge as i think they are more useful for cutting, just not chopping

Spearhead and Witchhunter thanks for the reinforcement of my own thoughts about the subject. I was just wondering if I was the only one who loves the asym edge. ;)

Les, this is funny. We bitched and moaned about the asym grind to where Jerry finally discontiues it and then, come to see the ease of maintence and efficiency in the field, well after the fact. I am one of the biggest offenders. No, I did not like the asym grind and complained loudly about it. Now, with a DMT card or the like and something to use as a strop you are quite well set. Guess Jerry knew what he was talking about all the time. I will agree with Witchunter about the smaller blades though, I do like the sym grind for pure cutting.

Yeah... I lobbied against the forces that be to keep the asym and was vetoed. No sweat. I also happen to think that sym grinds are good on smaller knives... made of thinner stock. For instance, I prefer an asym grind on 4" knives of 3/16" stock. On the other hand, for stuff in the 1/8" range, I like the sym grind better. Again... my opinion.
