Synthetic Inlays

Would anyone else like synthetic inlays, or is it just me? I would like to see the Sebenza available with micarta, G-10, and carbon fiber inlays. The wood is really nice but I would like some different options. What do you guys think?

I think the idea is certainly an intriguing one and I like it. All three substances would make durable inlays and would go hand in hand with the Sebenza's "image" as an upscale but tough knife. Both G-10 and CF would provide for excellent purchase and handle retention while using the knife. The question really is, would CRK be interested in these variations?

Got that right.......Chris knows what he's doing in sticking with natural materials IMHO. Synthetics would eventually cheapen CRK's image....again IMHO. Bone, ivory, etc.....OK!

I would buy a large Classic Sebenza with carbon fiber inlays right now! I would like black/blue or black/red carbon fiber. Oh well. It’s probably not going to happen.

I think that a Sebenza with interchangeable micarta, G-10, and carbon fiber inlays would be a big seller. It would require a couple of additional tapped holes on each side, which I don't know if the current thickness of the slabs would allow.
I'd enjoy going from the sleek look of C.F. to a grippy G-10 or coloured Micarta with the twist of just a few screws.
Then there is the oppertunity for personal customization of the scales with simple hand tools or a Dremel. And if you mess them up, just order a new set from Bridget. :)

It's probably not something that Chris would consider, :( but I wanted to throw the idea out there when I saw this thread.

Thanks!

I would like to see the Sebenza available with carbon fiber!

It is a heavy knife and fiber would help to that.

;)

I would like a Lg Reg Sebbie with maroon or olive drab micarta inlays.

I like micarta for grip with the handle gets soiled or sweaty.

I think that there are quite a few of us that would love to see the Sebbie line-up include carbon fiber inlays.

But unfortunately, we'll never see it !

While it may be true that CRK feels that cf will cheapen the image of the Sebbie. . .I would also imagine that there are several addition reasons. For example, cf could/would place the Sebbie in a "tactical" catagory of knives (which is a big no-no with Chris) and the costs associated with manufacturing/sub-contracting cf scales the size needed for Sebbie inlays.

And let's not forget. . .working cf is a real pain ! :barf:

I have to agree with CRK on this one. I have a CF handled handmade knife that cost less than my wood inlay Sebenza; tactical knives are available everywhere.
The variety of inlays (wood, leather, bone, etc) give plenty of choices for Sebbies.
The interchangeable slabs idea is a cool one, though. The Sebbie is a real hands-on DIY knife, and being able to change out your own slabs has great appeal.

I still stand by my updated comments in that thread, I'd really like to see some sting-ray skin inlays. It wouldn't make it "tactical", just very classy, especially if the "pearls" were in there. And you know how hard wearing sting-ray skin is:D

I think they have used Ray Skin.
