Anyone has experience on sticks made out of synthetic materials
such as Nylatron or Polymer etc? How do they hold up?

Got a pair of Eric Blair Toxic F-stix and have yet to break them or even dent them significantly. Broke a LOT of rattan sticks with them tho! :D

I went to my local plastics dealer and bought 20mm or 3/4 inch polycarbonate solid rods and have been using them for the last couple of years. I put on a grip on each of them so my hands don't slip when I get sweaty, they have a slight amount of flex in them but I think they're great.
They eat rattan, the rod that I have is also clear which can be fun however I have put tape on the end to give others some sort of reference point. The thing to remember with polycarbonate is that you never clean it with a solvent otherwise it can become brittle and break.

Phil, what were those sticks you made a while back made of? You mentioned that one of them broke under hard use... wouldn't want to use the same stuff!

I've made sticks of Delrin and of Nylon 6/6 MDS. The Nylon 6/6 MDS is very tough material, but occasionally you'll get some rod stock with an internal flaw -- and it will break:

Hey K Williams,

If you have a pair of MigStix, could you give us your opinion on the vibration you get with them? I'm thinking about getting a pair myself.

Any other comments you have would be welcome as well.

I have don't have a matched pair. One is 24" X 1", the other is 28" X 1". Out of the two, I prefer the 24" model. The shorter length has a better feel when swung hard. The 28" model seems to have a slight flex to it when you do full power strikes. Both are very tough. The vibration isn't bad...it doesn't feel like a rattan stick, but it will definitely last much longer than rattan ever will. The 24" model stays next to my bed along with a few other favorite short sticks. :D

Thank You Mr. Williams.

I'm getting a pair that will be the same length as the Presas Bolo's (22").

I can't wait until I get them.

No problem.

So my MigStix have arrived!

I got a pair of 22" in the lightweight (7/8") material.
This way they more closely resemble the bolo trainers I use.
They are also the most affordable of the the high performance synthetic sticks that I've been able to find.

I've only had them in my hands for about 5 minutes. So these are first impressions.

The knurling is excellent, and the round over on the ends is smooth, and consistent when comparing end to end and stick to stick.

Compared to some rattan of the same thickness, the Migstix have more bounce coming off an impact (making it a more responsive tool, good) and slightly more vibration. The vibration is very slight and certainly not at pain levels.

More later, after I've had time to play with them some more.

I've used Monadnock synthetic sticks before and have been very satisfied. Very little vibration, good onstruction, probably cheaper than the other sticks listed. Some of them are slightly different lengths though. Whatever you do, I would warn your partners that their sticks will be breaking more often.

I use a pair of 28" X 1" (Hollow) sticks made of polycarbonate that I got from a plastics dealer here in town. $4.50 for a 10' section. I cut it down to 28" and they are almost unbreakable.

I tookdown a stop sign and its pole by my house with them. All I had were scratches on them. And when I train with my frineds that use rattan, they hate it cause I always break there sticks. :)

I have had them for about 2 years now. And still going strong.
