Crafting a leather cover for a beloved axe; I get it. However for a maintenance free alternative, what would you use to make a simple edge cover? I'm looking for a material the can be worked similarly to leather; welts, rivets etc.

I've got a pretty decent one made from duct tape, but I doubt that's the direction you're looking to head. What about canvas or nylon webbing?

kydex with a rubber insert and leather glued to the outside for looks. Or just kydex & leather. might look good dependant on how you do it.
