Are these materials good for putting a fine edge on a blade? I got a Cold Steel Spartan that I want to bring close to it's potential. I was wondering if these stones are acceptable for this purpose.
I bought a stone from China recently. One side is sintered ruby and the other side is agate. The stone is advertised as 3000 and 10,000 grit respectively. I am familiar with knife sharpening using Arkansas, diamond, and ceramic rods. I can put the Spartan against the ceramic rod of unknown grit (but it seems relatively fine) and it comes to a very sharp edge quickly. I can then put it against the ruby and the edge stays about the same. Then I use the agate side and it actually dulls the blade. I am just wondering what is up. If anyone has an idea please chime in.
