System for Tethering Knives?

I know I have had knives fall out of my pocket before at undesirable moments, some to never be seen again. I was wondering if anyone out there had practical ways of tethering without looking like a dork.

I know, seems stupid. However, I have had plenty of pocket clips that weren't the best at keeping the knife in your pocket. I need to send my Um in because the clip is all stretched out and I'd rather have Chris fix it than ruin it myself. I just don't want to lose one of my beloved knives

If you think that is priced high you should see others like it. Personally I used a tape measure clip for my izula works great.

I'm sure you could attach some clip via lanyard to your um without hurting/modifying it at all.

For knives with a sheath, Mercop's 'Tactical Tether' works. My only complaint is that they only work with pants with a belt or a least belt loops. [what I mean is that sweatpants or tracksuit pants won't work because there's nothing to attach the tether]

I've taken to carrying slip-joints, which (other than Spyderco's) don't have clips. I used to just drop them in the ruler pocket of my Carharrts until the day a Schatt&Morgan big English Jack went AWOL. Now, I make a leather pouch for each size I carry. If you turn the leather rough side out, the sheath stays in your pocket. Then, you put a belt or stub lanyard on the sheath to pull it to hand.

As for knives with clips: If you're doing work where you'll be brushing against stuff, I'd still go with a pouch or a lanyard connecting your knife to your belt/pocket/whatever. Various forumites have complained of losing valued pieces when the clip caught on something and lifted the knife out of the pocket (it's happen to me when the edge of my biker's jacket catches the clip as I stand). Also, if you work/live in a knifephobic environment, a clip is a give-away that you're carrying.

No matter what method you pick, you should go with something you'll use regularly; hide, kydex, cordura, paracord, and leather lace are cheaper than replacement knives.

I was going to mention this general idea....for a while i carried my Izula in my pocket, which the sheath tethered to a belt loop with a bit of paracord.

Kydex for even folding knives is a possibility....CountComm has one for the Kershaw Leek if i recall correctly.
