Does anyone have any experience with Szabo knives?

They have some very interesting designs, that I'd like to buy, but I'm wondering if they are as "hard use" as they look.

Hopefully you guys have some good feedback about Szabo knives because I'd like to start scooping them up a.s.a.p.

Laci is a great guy! As you said, he has some interesting designs. They are purpose driven designs with a little excitement thrown in. He does not make the knives. He has several custome makers do the work.

I have had several of his knives go through my hands when I was collecting. While I did not test them, they had all the attributes of being "hard use".

If you never carry them or use them, they are at the least, fun to collect.

Have fun!

I've got his Filipino Boxcutter. Not sure if he still offers it. 1/4" thick kerambit. All edges beveled for ease of gripping and a nice black coating. Pretty sweet and very tough.

I got his military kerambit and his UUK. I like the strong design but the kerambit was not ergonomic for me. The UUK is ergonomic but not practical and is a bit heavy. I like his designs but I would ask around for more information/review/opinions before getting one cause they are pricey.

Thanks guys, as usual you've been very helpful.

I think I'll start with the filipino boxcutter and the UUK.

TOP's is making his Felony Stop knife from his design now as is the Spyderco Szabofly his design.

They are options if you like what you see there. I have the Szabofly and like it, seems the Felony Stop is a lot of knife for the money if you like TOP's product line.

I bought UUK #17 many years ago. I really like the design and construction for martial arts training but I can't carry it in my area. For now, it's largely a collector.

Laci is an impressive martial artist.

Call him and ask for his opinions. He was able to talk me into a knife I wasn't sure I wanted based on what purposes I intended to use it for. I was definitely happy with what I got, for all practical purposes.

His knives also differ a bit from piece-to-piece as they are all hand made. I actually prefer this.

As was mentioned previously, if you want a hard use utility/self defense knife it would be very difficult to beat the TOPS Felony Stop in terms of price, ergonomics, materials, and so forth. It's top of the line for sure.
