Hello, I'm a long time lurker

I have a Szabofly that I've had in my safe for years. I've been trying to get more information on them but Google is less than forthcoming. Are these fairly rare? I bought it years ago when I got several other balisong a

Thanks in advance

VG-10 version is extremely rare since most were confiscated by the Feds. I suspect that only the Collectors Club numbered pieces were shipped and, if that's true, then something less than 200 exist. The 154CM version is a lot more common, at least one full production run.

It seems like I also remember that there was a very small version of the Spyderco Szabo butterfly knife at around 05 or 06>> somewhere in that time range. I would have to get out my old Spyderco catalogs to nail it down but I know that DEACON knows which one I'm talking about.

I was tempted to get a couple of those smaller Szabo butterfly models at the time because I was quite certain that it would become a really rare collector's piece>> which it did because of all the serious collectors that I communicate with I only know of one guy who has that small Szabo model.

The exact name of that smaller one escapes me at the moment but I think it was only in the main line up for about one year tops if I can remember correctly.

I do have some pictures. I don't know how to post them. If you send me an email to kgdolan91 AT gmail.com I am happy to send them. Forewarning. I'm a terrible photographer

As far as size this is pretty big

Edit. More recent email

Any pics ? I'd love to check it out.

JD, there's only one size of Szabofly, unless some of the fakes are smaller.

The VG-10 version that I mentioned in my previous post came out around 2006 was the same size as the 154CM version that came out around 2009. In addition to the different steels, there were some differences in the way the handles were put together in the two versions, but they both had 4 3/16" blades in similar sized handles. Spyderco did make a smaller version of the Spyderfly, called the SmallFly around the same time they made the 154CM version of the Szabofly.

For anyone who just wants to see what the two versions look like...
