A while back I asked Joe to put together a knife that would accompany the hatchet he made for me. Something easy to carry on the belt or go in the backpack with the hatchet. Nothing fancy, just a good user. This Early American Hunter is convex ground D2 forged by Joe that has a spine 1/4'' thick. The cutting edge is about 3 1/4'' and the piece is around 7 3/4'' overall. One sharp, stout and handy fella. You could dig with this guy if you needed to.

A great example of how less can be more, and from a maker who enjoys tremendous respect for what he knows as well as what he does. Nice photo too. Would love to see both together.

Joe really nailed the look you were after, in my opinion.
As simple as it may be at first glance, there's a lot going on with this knife.
Ya' done good.

Here's an image of the hatchet. It has been posted in the Ax, Tomahawk and Hatchet forum for a while. Before the head , which is forged 52100, was mounted it would balance perfectly on it's cutting edge on top of an anvil. There are photos of it doing just that in the Ax forum. Just do a search for Szilaski" and you'll find the thread. The hatchet doesn't look quite this new at the moment. It is a little 16 inch cuttin' machine. I'll put together an image of them both soon. The two pieces together are about all a guy really needs for being out in the woods for a while.

A great little knife from a guy whose work you don't see often enough. Great guy and super knowledgeable.
