T.g.i.f.f. !!!

Yes, thanks goodness, it's Friday! Off from work at 3isch today and off to the mountains for the WE! It's already near zero here at night and bears are active getting ready for their "wintersleep", but the days are supposed to be amazing with sun and in the 20's (degree celsius that is my US-friends :)). I hoped for my new Fiddleback for that trip but it has to wait until a winter-weekend I guess. Happy Friday everybody!
Andy

Yeah, not getting much done for work at the moment as I keep checking to see if the feeding frenzy has commenced.

Good to know that I'm not the only one... Lunch breaks on Friday's are spent staring at my computer screen, choking down some quick grub and hoping that I'll get a glimpse of the newest Fiddleback batch before it's all gone. The worst part is if we get into the afternoon and it hasn't been posted yet: I get too busy to check the computer that frequently and then it's all I can think of! I need some type of Fiddleback clause written into my contract...other people get smoke and coffee breaks, why can't I take a Fiddleback Break?

I pulled out the Bushfinger last night and spent some quality time with it, thinking of today's batch and "rubbing it for luck" as it were: I was actually starting the process of buffing out the secondary bevel and refinishing the blade, but we can still call it "rubbing for luck." ;) I hope it pays off and something with my name on it pops up today!!!

Awestib, I hope y'all are making your preparations in AB. I'm in NS and I've got that feeling that we might just be in for a real winter this year. Don't know what it's been like for you guys lately but I know that when it gets cold up there, IT GETS COLD!!! Haha so maybe we should take our cue from the bears and get ourselves ready for a real Canadian winter...it's been a long time since we've had one IMO, and it's just starting to feel like it's due. I'm hoping to maybe get a Fiddleback Camp Knife soon to help process all that firewood I'll be needing, but do real Canadians enter the woods without an axe? That's the question I've been posing to wildmanh, who has a Camp Knife, and I still can't make up my mind!

Best of luck to everyone today, I hope anyone who's looking sees something that catches their eye. Not a hard task with the quality of the work that Andy churns out.

pveiled - I have the same feeling, I think we are getting a brutal winter here in Alberta/BC. The last one was not too bad! In regards to axes, my HO is somewhat mixed. A good and long enough folding saw and a good long enough (9 inch or more) camp knife for batoning is a good alternative! Also, an axe is quite dangerous when getting tired or during lack of attention! On the other hand, it's a beautiful tool and it's fun to use. I guess have it all and try it out. I have not been to the east cost but I heard great things. I'd love to visit Cape Breton during September (I heard that's the best time??).

My axe is one of my favorite tools, and it makes short work of preparing the mounds of firewood that are called for in a serious, cold, long Canadian winter. Haven't had much use for it that last few years as it's been mild and rainy, not cold and snowy, but I really do think we're going to get hammered this year. I've been really toying with abandoning it for something a little eaiser to use and carry, such as a Camp Knife (and maybe a good folding saw such as you suggest). There is a hand rubbed Camp Knife up on knivesshipfree.com right now that's been calling my name so hard but I just can't bite the bullet.

As far as traveling East goes, I highly reccomend it. Cape Breton is indeed lovely in September, all of this part of the Country is quite colourful and beautiful this time of year. What with the leaves turning colours and all of that. If you're a fisherman however I would say Cape Breton in the Spring/Summer is best ;) I would really love to get out West some day too; I've never been further than Ontario. I have friends who live in BC and they all say "dude, you've got to get out here, you don't know what you're missing!" So one day I hope to be enjoying Sockeye instead of Atlantic Salmon :)

OUCH! It's five to one here in Halifax, and that means it's time for me to get back to work. Good luck with the upcoming batch all and hey, if you're feeling kind, save something handsome and slicey for me ;)

I've got the pics. Starting to edit them now. Still gotta write the thread too. Beautiful batch of knives fellas!

Hey take your time Andy...hell, if you can wait a few hours I'll promise to be at home, staring at the screen with my wallet in one hand and a beer in the other!!! :p :D :p

"Hey take your time Andy..."

Don't listen to him Andy. The cold Canadian air has chilled his brian and slowed his synapses. He's talking nonsense. :p

Crank out that script and get those babies posted. No time like the present. Chop, chop! Rapido! Rapido!

Mwahahaha the cold Canadian air is what keeps my brain crisp and sharp! Like the edge of a well loved Fiddleback ;) I feel your urgency TR; Friday has definitely become my favorite day of the week. It's finally trumped Saturday because, while Saturday contains no work duties at all, Friday has all the Fiddlebacks! How can you argue with that?

Maybe it's just me here in sunny So Cal (home of sun baked brains and half baked ideas).

"How can you argue with that?" Hard to argue much of anything after my third breakfast margarita (hey, I do live near the beach).

I'm a bit of a "Fiddleback Friday" virgin. So far it feels a lot like an addiction or an illness (I mean that in a good way).

Like the dude said "f5,f5,f5,f5..."

pveiled—funny you mention the Camp knife. I just emailed Andy to see if he still makes them. I think he seemed open to making one for me, but I haven't put the "official" request in yet. I have the same thing—love my hand axes (Wetterlings) but would like to try a Camp knife at some point.

I agree about cold winter coming. Weather has been screwy here in Vermont... well, I guess all over. But I am feeling real cold coming.

Spent some time up there in Cape Breton area and you do not lie—gorgeous country up there in Canadia lands!

Thanks Schmittie. I went and checked it out. Had no idea they ran so spendy! Anyway, I just put in for a 16" machete to use as a chopper for now, so I am on hold on the Camp Knife. Plus, I am hot for some Hiking Buddies now! Thanks for the tip-off though.
