O.k. so this I've sweat over for quite some time. A customer asked me if I had ever made a brassback bowie. The answer was no, but I had always wanted to. To make a long story short, he took a chance and said that was good enough for him. So the deal was made followed by the knife. Here is the product. Its made of 01 tool steel 10 1/2in. blade 3/16in. thick rc 56. The brass spine is dovetailed and fileworked, along with the gaurd and pommell. The handle is elk with walnut spacers. The sheath is leather (DUH!) And diamond back rattlesnake skin. The whole package is over 16in. Long. It was a challenge but in a good way. The customer is a real joy to work with and I'm very excited to send it to him. Thanks for lookin. Comments welcome and appriciated!

After a work week from HELL!!! Literally, then coming home to see this!! WOW!! I have been collecting Brassbacks from Randall, Ruana, AL MAR, and I have seen countless others.. I have never seen one with FILE WORK on the brassback... I am just amazed and cant wait to get her in my hands.. Just looking at the pictures I can easily say this the MOST gorgeous Brassback I have seen.. That "rising sun" guard is just AMAZING! .. Todd, thank you for working on this for me! Its been a mission for you , but WOW! I will let you know the feel ones i get her!

Thanks!

Just for the record, today I had the pleasure of checking this work of art out in person, and I honestly can't think of the proper adjectives to describe it. Awesome is a good start, but awe inspiring is more fitting. Incredibly, the pictures don't do it justice. To hold this in your hand is to covet it like Gollum in Lord of the Rings. As I said earlier, dax..it's a helluva blade. Enjoy.

It is a fine piece fo sho! I haven't seen it completed, but in various states of work in progress. Very impressive to behold. Great work as always Tim!

Tim? Damnit Murph, lay off the cheep booze! T. O. D. D.!

that is really a cool looking knife, I think that dovetailing the brass in like that was a stroke of genius! out of curiosity, does anybody know if originally there was a function of the brass back or was it cosmetic from the beginning?

I really dig the shape of the tip, it looks like something a pirate might carry to my mind. A very successful pirate of course.

Yeah, I can field this one. The brass, is a very soft metal. The brass spine on brassbacks was ment to obsorb sword blows. If hit it would take the blow and not break the blade. Witch would render the person defensless.

I hope you guarantee that brassback for taking a BLOW:o).. Thats what I heard too in reference to a brass spine.... I carry a .45 for a guy with a sword!:o)..

Very excited!

I love how the Raising sun gaurd works with the butt cap.. The flow together!!

I can't get over how cool the shape on the tip is, had to stare at it again. 45 definitely better medicine for a guy with a sword, but this makes the cleanup work afterwards a lot easier ;)
