Some weeks ago the name Todd Hunt was brought up by a friend of mine in a conversation on knives. This friend was telling me about one of Mr. Hunt's knives that had gone through some tests at the Becker gathering, and that it was a shame that I got there late and left early and didn’t get a chance to try it for myself because the knife looked right up my alley. Eventually it sank in that that this Todd Hunt fellow and our T.M. Hunt are the same person, and I started looking at the knives he was posting. As it turned out I agree with Andrew's assessment that Mr. Hunt's Utility model is definitely right up my alley. From the sharp tip, flat grind, distal taper, textured spine, great contours, and excellent ergonomics to the textured tang extension it could have darn near been a design right out of my own head. So, the next logical step was of course to contact Mr. Hunt. After an exchange of private messages Todd made an offer I couldn't refuse during a phone call...he offered to let me try out his personal knife to see how I felt about it in the bush. Now bear in mind this is not a new knife, as you can see by the marks in the finish, Todd has used it himself, and it has been tested by a member or two of the Becker Head group. I must admit the first thought that passed through my head upon hearing that was that this man either had confidence in his knife or he was insane. After talking to him and getting the impression that he is quite lucid, I couldn't wait to try out his knife. I just got it today so only some initial impressions here, but I will say that as long as his heat treat is anywhere near as good as his profiling, blade and edge geometry, handle contouring, fit and finish, and over all design execution then our Mr. Hunt makes a heck of a knife. I'm really looking forward to taking it for a spin.

That is all the knife you need right there!
When's the passaround? :D

Already a great start to a review Mist and as always excellent pix! That knife is very comfy in the hand, I can attest to that. Maybe I'm a little biased, but Todd does top notch work!

That's what I was thinking when I looked at it. I started one very similar months ago...but have never gotten around to finishing it. This is sort of like taking the lazy way out, but I really don't have the time and I really like Todd's execution very very much.

Hmmm....since the only way I can get the one I am wanting Todd to make for me, after I play with this one a bit, is contingent on me giving his knife back...I think you'll need to talk to Todd about that :)

Wow what a gorgeous piece, stunning. Awesome work TM!!

It is a beautiful piece! The bolster work is very impressive. I'm not sure I need him to put that much into mine for my uses, a plain handle may suit me better...still thinking about that... but the man definitely has some skills!

Thanks Murph. Oh the knife is very comfy in hand, excellent ergonomics and I love the way it handles. I think I am really going to enjoy this :)

Oh that one! My lil friend...... I may be responsible for the finish ''work'' LOL

I like that blade a LOT...I tested it pretty thoroughly and was very pleased.

Curious to hear your take on it Mist. Don't mind that aroma..that's just Ogre sweat :)

Dont be scared to use it either. We beat the snot out of it and it took it grinnin. Held its edge through it all too.
Heck of a knife. Todd may not be much to look at but some how he cranks out very nice knives ...lol
Had to take a shot at him since I was raving about his blade.

Yeah, I like it a LOT too. Yes, from what I hear, you're definitely responsible for some of the finish work lol.

So far my take on it is VERY positive :)

Nah...Todd assured me he'd washed it before he sent it :p

Oh, not scared to use it, it's already been broke in I can tell :)

Yeah, I don't blame you there lol.

I LOVE that handle, both the design and the shape of it look awesome!

Yep, me too on both counts, and it feels awesome too!

Well thank you gentlemen for all your compliments. It is nice to have your work appriciated, and thank you to Mistwalker. Its very humbling to have my work admired by someone with the background, skill, and knowledge that he has. Its ironic really. I subscribe to self reliance magazine and was reading a very interesting article on firemaking with a bow drill written by Mistwalker. A few paragraphs in and the phone rings. It was the author himself. How many times in ones life will that happen. I hope the knives live up to his expectations! Thanks Mistwalker. And all of you for your intrest!

btw, Todd, I love the rounding of the guard area behind the sharpening notch. First rate detail.

Your knives, and the work you put into them, are worthy of admiration Todd. I'm just a guy who's been using knives a long time and is pretty good with them, you're the craftsman creating the knife. Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the article. From what I've seen so far today...only a little playing really, I think the knives are going to do just fine.

That is one awesome looking knife:thumbup:.

Isn't it though

Yep that was one of the little details that caught my eye right off.

The handle on that looks outstanding, and comfortable. Really good looking blade

The handle really is outstanding in design execution, fit and finish, ergonomics, symmetry, and secure purchase. I love how it feels in hand and in use. I really love the blade profile, grind, and edge geometry too. Now, I do not have the largest hands in the world so those with bigger than average hands would want to let Todd know about that.

Just a bit of an update. This knife has been getting a workout in the south Florida bush, some more pics to come in another thread soon. The more I use it, the more I like it...and I loved it to start with :)
