Just wondering, and would appreciate all feedback offered regarding this specific and very odd knife. It suits my needs as an every day tool meeting all the requirements that Big Brother has decreed. I would like to know how it handles - it being a rather rare item for sale in brick and mortar retailers I will not be able to have a hands on experience before purchess.

I've handled one before. It's a very nice looking knife. I like it's shape and how it feels in hand but the magnet lock is weaker than any slipjoint I've ever handled.
Here's a photo/card that might help with your concerns about the cell phone and pda.

thank you very much for taking the time to upload the photo and get back to me twid.

For the Spyderco team I have a question regarding the magnet used, will users be able to have replacements fitted if the knife is returned for refurbishment to a Spyderco factory? I have read neodyme magnets are the strongest charged on the market (excluding electromagnets) what sort of time period are we looking at in regards to customer service and repairs?

back to you twid :D

How tight is the pivot joint on your T-Mag and does the blade and handle feel up the task of fairly high pressure strokes, I'm thinking whittling work here

I've never owned or used the t-mag, just messed around with one at a local hardware store so I'm not sure how it would perform. I do have a ukpk drop point which is very similar in all dimensions and does fine shaving sticks (closest thing to whittling I've done).

The rest of the knife is very well built with high end materials, its just the magnet lock did not work out as Spyderco intended. There is a thread on the Spyderco forums by some members who changed the magnets out for much stronger neodymium magnets, they stated it seems to help lockup.

As far as how tight the pivot is I did not play around with adjusting it any, mine opens and closes very smooth and I felt Spyderco was more qualified to set that tension than me :D.

When open, the blade on my T-Mag will release if I snap my wrist the way you'd do with an "old school" mercury fever thermometer before using it. Then, once the magnet is overcome, the blade swings like a well oiled gate. To me, that's way too easy, an accident waiting to happen. I'm no fan of G-10, especially in foliage green, but in spite of that I'd strongly suggest you consider the UKPKDP as an alternative. Or, if you really like CF, then consider the Terzuola SlipIt.

i had one, got rid of it.

i didnt like having to keep my electronics away from it. but the CF, and blade steel/grind were great, and felt good in the hand. i think you would be better off getting a UKPK if you need a 3" slip joint.

edit: looks like Paul beat me.

Might I also recommend the Bob Terzuola Slipit? It is a non locking folder made of carbon fiber and s30v. It is an amazing knife and I edc'd mine for over 6 months straight. I still have it and edc it frequently but decided I should share pocket time with my other knives :p lol

Thanks for all the feedback everyone  yes looking at Bob Terzoula's Splipit last night after the recomendations and it seems to be just what I need. I see it has a false swedge along the top, that may be a problem down the line but im willing to chance it.

the ability of the magnet to interfere with electronic devices is highly overrated
I have constantly used by T-Mag in the proximity of electronic devices as well as carried it in the same pocket with my credit cards with no ill effects whatsoever
here is one pic with the T-Mag standing on top of my laptop and near an external HDD, cell phone and wallet with CC inside

now the open/closed retention issue may be a real one, I think you'd better handle one before deciding to buy it

My cell phone case has a strong magnet to keep the cover closed, never hurt many of my cell phones and they are right up against the magnet.

I would not worry about electronics nearly as much as I would be concerned with my watch movement.

Yeah the whole magnet/electronic items thing has been a non issue for me too. I carry my knife in the same pockat as my phone and when I carry the T-mag, thats where it rides too, no problems so far. The magnets retention on the blade when open is however, pretty weak. Then again I got mine on clearance, so still an excellent deal.

Fully agree on both counts. IIRC, the only "device" a T-Mag has actually messed up was the magnetically coded strip on a hotel key card. From what I understand, because those are reprogrammed constantly they are orders of magnitude easier to screw up than a credit card or the type of key card I had to use to enter my office when I worked for the state.

No issues for computers other than magnetic media like floppy disks or zip disks and CRT screens. Is anyone still using them?. No danger to LCD screens. The other possibility, mag strips, as mentioned, key cards and on credit or debit cards.

IMO. killing a credit cards should be a considered a benefit. Save your money, pay cash and use the interest money you save to buy another Spyderco.
