I would like to start some enthusiasm for the T.O.A.D lock design from Grant and Gavin Hawk. If it needs explaining check this out: http://hawkknifedesigns.com/TOAD.html
I know the R.A.M. is just weeks/days (hoping) away, but i think Kershaw can't ignore the impact these two gentlemen are making on the way we think about knives. I took apart my TiZDP Mini Cyclone the other week and was expecting something complicated, but in truth there was something like 12 parts, screws included; i was surprised. That is not to say that simplicity is bad, and as such, i tend to think of simple knives as elegant (like an elegant solution to a math problem).
The Hawks however, have seemed to turn this theory on their head in search of "a better way." I would Like to applaud their sheer tenacity for ingenuity and over engineering (but isn't it better to be over engineered rather than under engineered?) Thomas mentioned (granted back in 2005) that not a single E.T. had come back for warranty work, it was that well designed. and with the R.A.M. being an adaptation of the Hawk's D.O.G. system, i would like to see some support for the T.O.A.D. lock being next on the list for a production consideration.
What say you?
