Just when you think you've seen it all!
This special knife was made by Terry Vandeventer for a custom knife patron and friend.

It's a wonderful piece of work but what amazes me is what happened to the pearl when I put it under photo lights. The effect Terry achieved is like an oil painting. I love the depth - from what could be ocean upward through ascending terrain, to the cross backed by a glorious sky filled with clouds and finally a corona around the top of the cross. Amazing. It perfectly evokes a powerful theme, as expressed by its name "Resurrection."

I'll add some measurements a little later and maybe Terry will come along and comment. In the meantime, take another long look.:D

Absolutely fantastic........but no surprise at all...

VERY nice indeed. I love SF-styled knives and think Terry did a super job with this piece. I really need to add something like this to my collection one day.

That is truly an image of this knife which goes WAY beyond what would be expected. You know that pearl patterns change dependent upon the light direction; it's just perfect that this shows it so well.

The other insets are clear, engaging, and informative. Wonderful royal holistic background with the subtle underlying cross. Boldly lighted edge. This is a photograph that does this knife complete 'justice'.

Terry, I am so smitten by Buddy's work I'm neglecting yours. In a nutshell: Masterpiece.

Thanks to everybody for the kind comments. This was the first San Francisco knife I've ever made. There was a bit of a learning curve but it was fun.

Cheers,

A very special knife! Really a super job. Great image, Buddy. Had to be a fun one to play with in front of the camera!

Wow Terry that is a stunner. I have always liked this style of knife and you did a great job on this one. Beautiful work. Not forgetting to mention Buddy's great picture. You are right that pearl came alive.

A truly elegant piece, and so well done.
That's some beautiful MOP. Examples that thick are very rare.
It reminds me of the Swiss Alps.

Well done knife and yeah those scales are BIG. I think the damascus pattern is symetrical enough that it works nice on here.

Not a big fan of MOP, but that's a beautiful knife! Impressive.

Kind regards,

Jos

I failed to mention how appreciative I am to Buddy for shooting this knife. After receiving his first proof, I was satisfied. He tweaked the background a bit and it was a go. We are so privileged to have such great knife photographers serving our industry.

Aw shucks... Thanks but, as Coop taught me, it's easy to photograph a beautiful knife. ;)

OAL 10 in. Blade 5 1/2 in. 8.9 oz. plus Terry's damascus and some of the nicest pearl you'll ever see.

What an outstanding knife.. I wasn't familiar with Terry's work until now, and I'm looking forward to researching his bio, and trying to find many other examples of his knives.. It really is something Terry.. Sending it to someone like Buddy, who does his best to bring out the beauty of every knife he photographs, was a good move too! I love the inlayed Spanish Cross... Best Regards, Rich

The pearl still amazes. Here's a detail crop from the original capture.
