LOL! I had nice Saturday afternoon yesterday.

The Book of Eli finally got shown over here. Not exactly Oscar-worthy but a good film to spend a couple of hours on. Denzel and Gary Oldman are always a treat to watch. Some nice fight scenes too (Denzel I believe trained with Inosanto and Imada of state-side FMA fame) with his TEOTWAWKI-cum-cannibal machete. Exercising Google fu, here's the lethal beauty -

After that I went to my barber to get my monthly 3x5 cut, I took a peek at a pop-up store next door selling guy stuff and gear. After the hats, wallets, fake Seiko divers watches, etc. I noticed some big knives at the end of the shelf and asked to have a look. To my surprise it was one of those China-made (I'd expected as much) stainless machetes unknowingly made famous by Myke Hawke on TV. I managed to hold one sometime last year at a mil. surp. store.

The difference though with the Myke Hawke version was that the one I held yesterday was significantly lighter and had faux wood burl plastic handle. Both had a more pistol-grip curved handle and recurve on the blade than the Eli version, which was straighter with a fuller "roach belly" blade.

So is the universe trying to tell me something? :p Is it time to get a new weed-whacker/bamboo splitter/burglar-pissed-in-his-pants knife?

Only Ray Mears uses an expensive knife on his shows...so does bear grylls but i have alos seen him abuse and beat the piss out of gerber gators and such, les stroud at best will have a leatherman or SAK, maybe a buck 110...
Mykel Hawke has his el'cheapo china made junk.

I thought the majority of survival show hosts used cheaper knives so that the viewers dont think they have to have a 300 dollar knife to survive in the wilderness...cause you dont.

Most of us on this forum have expensive-ish knives because we are knife/survival enthusiasts..but all of us will agree a 10 dollar mora knife will get the job done, no questions.

A cheap knife in knowledgeable hands will get more done than an expensive knife in the hands of the uneducated.

Looks like a decent enough user aside from the rather pointless holes in the blade.

Personally I see no advantage in purchasing a Chinese-made machete when Central/South American ones are so inexpensive and usually of a superior quality. But if you like it then that's what matters. :)

Still have a couple of my itak and I gave my beater "Tram" to my dad along with my Gen. 3 Endura some years back. I'm thinking of getting one just for the novelty of it. BUT, I'm willing to be surprised if it can handle some bamboo splitting ;)

That looks like a thai-enep. There will be one company that will be making a thai enep machete in the future.

haha... either way, no matter where it's made, you won't be able to tie a bandanna around your eyes and slice highwaymens' hands off in .0002 seconds just by buying a similar blade. I'll stick with my 12 inch Ontario Cutlass.

Looks like the perfect knife to fight cannibals, or zombies. I would give TOPs a few months :)
