Hi all - had a quick question. Just received a comp sjtac and was wondering if anyone had modified the grip in any way to reduce the hump. If so, how did you do it? Thanks in advance.

P.S. I am pretty sure this is my first post on an internet forum ever. Yes, I am high tech

Hey welcome first time poster! I don't have an answer but I am sure that someone will be along soon!

Your forum name could of fooled me .. :D:D
Welcome to the forums ..

Hope this helps .

I had the hump on my sarsquatch straightened out and now the handle is much more comfortable.
An industrial belt sander straightened everything out in no time. The butt was also rounded for reverse grip comfort.

Or

you can try out an old straight Handle satin jack. There is no need to modify anything on that blade..

Thanks all for the welcome!

Jarvis - that looks really good! Did you grind it yourself or have someone else do it? I would love to get a shsj but can't afford one right now after paying for my ganzaa score.

The tac handle really isn't that bad for me, it's just that the bottom hump is a little too rounded. I have to say that the comp. sjtac is the second sharpest knife I have gotten from Busse!

I usually modify blades myself but I had a local knifemaker (Tim Horan) modify this blade. One of my main reasons is because I suck at doing handle wraps. Tim is really good at this and he had some marine grade resin that was applied to the para cord to deter moisture and add strength.

The Comp. SJTAC should satisfy your need for sharpness . I bought the comp. sarsquatch and it was the sharpest Busse I ever received form the shop.. I never really thought about sanding down the bottom hump. I would think ot would be best to get rid of the upper hump instead..

Thanks for the info. I might take it over to my Dad's place since he has a workshop and likes to mess around with things. When I grip the handle it's only the bottom part that feels a little uncomfortable so maybe I will just take a little off that at first.

i've had some BATACs modded by Bill Seigle to do just that, although i had him flatten both the top and bottom.

Are going to be at BladeWest?
I would like to get a better look at that mod. I sold my BATAC and bought a SJTAC because I hated the handle on the Badger so much. The SJ is much better and is ok as is but I would like to get a better look at some of the mods out there before I make any decisions on moding the handle.

Uncle Jarvis- you and your old-school satin jacks. Every day you taunt me with them. I'm afraid you must send one of those directly to me- immediately. If you refuse, I will be forced to send my ENFORCER to Chicago to *persuade* you. You see my avatar? You think you wanna mess with that, brother?

UnwiseFool- welcome to the forum! Sit back, relax, enjoy some Kool-Aid! (bwahahahaha!!!)

But, the handles are the same. The SJTac and BATac use identical slabs. I know this because I have removable slabs on mine.

Did your Badger have mags and the Satin Jack have standards?

Thanks guys for the ideas. Definitely some things to look into! Moonwilson - I think this kool-aid stuff is dangerous! Especially since it tastes like scotch :D

Ohhh crap !!! Not the enforcer .. :grumpy: I promise to never post pics of SHSJs again... See, I value my life . ;)

They both had/have mags. The BA had micarta and the SJ has G-10. I bought the Badger direct when they were offered through Busse and the SJ at the Eugene show. The SJ is by best estimates a varient and possibly one of a kind. To me it feels smaller in height and noticably smaller behind the talon hole where my index finger wraps around. Still could use a little improvement but not much compared to the BA.
I'm not sure how to explain why it feels so much different to me. Maybe the elfs knew I was praying to the INFI gods for a better knife and snuck one just for me into Skunks pile at the Eugene show. :)

unfortunately not. and that one is up for sale anyway.
i don't have a regular BATAC to compare it to anymore, and it's been so long that i don't really trust my memory of it, but i did just recently come by a SJTAC and for some reason the handle feels fine (where as i sent both my BATACS for that mod)

Thats to bad that your not going to make it. Hope the BATAC sells quick.

I guess I'm not the only one who finds the SJTAC to be a better fit. Which version did you get?

the SJTAC i have has standard handles, and i've had BATACS with both standard and regular. can't really remember the standard handled BATAC too well, just that i didn't like the handle. (i do prefer the standard to mags, but i have small hands)
