Just for general yard, woods duties? Hacking thick weeds, and such. Have a crappy Wal-Mart machete, looking for something more sturdy/durable. Not many Taliban in my yard, so I don't need anything too "tactical," but I've always liked the looks of the Tac Tool.
Thoughts? Criticisms? Other recommendations?
Thanks.

It will do really well, been using mine for the same thing, you will find the pry bat point and the chisel grind really help in those...

I've had mine for a few years it has chopped good size trees down I have dug with it used it as a chisel when building a deck. It's a great knife if you think it you can do it with that knife

I personally would go with something like a 9 or a 4, although i dont know how affective any of them would work weed wackin'. I have no personal experience with the Tac Tool, but in my eyes i would classify it more of a demolition/utility tool. But heck with it, get em all!!!!!!

Wow, 2.5 hours before a "get 'em all." I expected that a lot sooner ;)
Thanks for the input, everybody

I'd agree with the idea of either a 9 or a 4 as well (will do you better for brush clearing and wood processing) but If your looking for something to do just about anything the tac-tool will do you justice. My friend just got a BK-4 a month ago and that thing just sails through stuff up to about forearm thickness (and will go bigger with a little technique and time) I can't find anything bad about it and I'm a guy pretty set in my axemanship I'd rather have a small axe or hatchet than a big knife but the 4 is the missing link of the edged tool world (that or a good Kukuri)

I keep my 3 in my car. It just sits between the seats.

Couple weeks ago I was on the highway when a car in front of me a ways sideswiped the median and started smoking real bad. I was with my mom who is a nurse so she had me pull over. the dudd that was driving was stoned or something, he refused to get out of the car. Couple other people stopped the car started showing flames. I grabbed my 3, handed it to one of the other guys, off duty fire department, he broke the window out, cut off the dude's belt, and pulled the guy out.

The KA-BAR Grass Mechete is a kick ass yard tool! It's like your typical Mechete but it's thick, it's got weight for chopping and length for clearing brush, but if it's a BK&T you have to have I would say the BK4

Got a 3 and a 9, have my eye out for a 2.
Used the 3 to hack down a bunch of saplings this weekend. Had an old oak tree fall toward a neighbors house and get hung up in another tree. A friend and I got a rope around it and pulled it down away from the neighbor's place.
3 is great, can't wait to hack some stuff with the 9...

The answer is yes. The BK3 is great for woods work. Spent a couple hours this afternoon clearing out some sticker vine that took over a big patch of the woods. BK3 was a HUGE help. Wrapping the handle with tennis racket handle tape and orange duct tape was a great idea. Put some tape on the sheath as well. Not gonna lose these guys in the woods...

If were to get a 3, this is what I would use it for. A tool for the truck.
