Tachyon #148 arrived today and I must say I am VERY happy! Very well made knife, EXCELLENT quality and very smooth. It came with a manilla style latch.

Please excuse my ignorance, but how the hell do I get the latch screw out? When I turn the screw, the back side turns too! I can't hold the back still to loosen the screw. I tried my finger, even some tape, but I can't loosen it.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

i think the tachyon uses lock tite in the screw threads to keep em...well...tight.
get a soldering iron, let it warm up,then touch the tip to the screw head for just a few seconds, that should loosen it up,freeing the screw.

not that it happens often (yeah right),but i could be wrong.
good luck.

If the heat doesn't work you may have sucess with this:
Open the latch until it is extended in line with the handle. Hold the handle in your left hand (if u r a righty), screw head up, torx driver in left hand, lay the latch head on a table top, apply pressure to the latch binding the screw bolt and torx away!
Works on pivot pin screws that have locktite applied too, just open the blade, lay it flat on a table or bench, tilt up the handle to apply pressure and out she comes. Hope this helps. ld

Finally! Thanks guys. The heat and pressure on the table finally loosend it up. I switched it over to the bite handle. This is an incredible balisong! I have to say, it is the highest quality and performs very, very well. Very nice work Mr. Turber! Keep them coming!

Chefget Uh Oh!! my closet lurking habits are out...somehow I feel relieved! :D LarryD

Well it's good to have you around Larry, now that the secret's out feel free to share some of the info that has made your name famous in the industry! And I have to second Michael's bid for a bali of "this" quality...I can only imagine!

There is no Loc-Tite used when we put the latches on. Another easy way to remove the latch is to apply pressure by pulling on the latch while you are unscrewing it. Have another person pull on the latch while you unscrew it will apply pressure on the female part of the pin allowing the male part to be removed easily.

Thats how I do it :)

What I did was hold the knife in the closed position in the ice pick grip. Unlatch the latch and press down on it with your thumb like you're lighting a Bic lighter. This will freeze the female latch pin and let you unscrew it very easily.

A Davidson Balisong? I'm not a liberty to say anything yet :D We'll be releasing some details shortly, but until then you'll just have to wait.

There is a Davidson Bali project in the works and what Mark says is true, nos. 1 and 2 are spoken for. I don't want to break in on this thread to promote the project so I guess a new thread is in order and since Mark first asked me about developing a Bali based on my Avenger model I will let him fill in the details, it that's alright with him. It was his idea and he has offered his knowledge as a collector and has graciously loaned me several to study and (the best part) play with. btw these things are addicting and as soon as the cuts on my fingers heal I'll get back to work building a few. LarryD

Larry, did a search in the forums and found a pic of your avenger, it is fantastic. Looks like it's going to be an excellent balisong. Thanks for starting the project
and that goes to Mark too!
