Rather than disrupt and hijack Armands 1 of 500 thread any further, I'll start a new one.
Here are some pictures of the liner lock system of the original Taclites.
This is the two together with the lock deployed to lock the blades open.
This a picture of the 886 (a very dirty one for sure), that shows the button side liner pressing the locking side liner out of the way. You can see how close the button side liner is to the blade. You have very little movement of the blade towards the closed positon before you hang up on the button side.
This is a picture of the 885 with the button fully depressed and the button side liner holding the locking liner out of the way of closing the blade. There is more room to move the blade towards the closed position before the blade hits the button side liner, so it's a bit easier to use, but still awkward.
