Taco or Pancake?

I am considering buying a Rucki, and I was wondering which of the two styles of sheaths is preferred by those who have experience with them. The pancake style seems like it would be easier to strap to a pack or whatnot. On the other hand, the taco style is more compact. Which do you guys think works best in the end?

I like the pancake as you said, it can be so versatile. So many ways to strap it to stuff and strap stuff to it. :)

I like taco better on most knives but in the case of a Rucki I would go pancake.

Buy Brown ESS Pancake. They are the best solution (IMHO) for larger blades that you will find (as long as you want Kydex).

Just ordered an Azwelke taco sheath on eBay for the Ratmandu I ordered last week. Will post pics when I get them both. As for the Rucki, it sounds unanimous in favor of the pancake sheath. I'll follow up if I decide to pull the trigger.

I guess I'm in the minority here. Ordered an Azwelke taco sheath for my Rucki. I figure the way I'll be carrying it will be on the side of my Kelty Redwing backpack, which has this side panel to slide into. Wanted the minimal amount of material to make sure it fit. The pancake style does have a lot more potential for carrying options. Can post pics whenever it shows up in any case.

I was wondering when that was coming and you didn't disappoint! :D

Leatherman, I see from your link that you're based out of San Antonio. I live in Eagle Pass, just a couple of hours away. I travel to SA often. In fact, I was up there this past weekend. Do you have a store front? I would love to come up and see your business if you do.

No store front here, my shop is attached to the back of the house, makes overhead much simpler to manage. Going to work has never been so nice.:)

Since I do mostly custom work these days I dont even have much at all on hand for show and tell. :o My little sub forum and the web site are my show and tell.

Pancakes for 7" and larger blades for me.

smaller blades tacos

I used to only really like the fold over style but the lashing possibilities of the sandwich style really are a plus on larger blades.

More holes = more possibilities.

Fold over = slimmer more hide-ability :)

hope that helps
