As many of you dont know or care, my birthday is coming up in about a month. Sadly, I'm not allowed any knives. I respect my parents wishes so no means no for now. Anyways, I'm looking to get something to EDC. I recently got a Leatherman Juice CS4, a Fenix PD22, Uzi Tactical Pen, and a Spyderco Sharpmaker. I have the basics, but what more do I need? I've got the flashlight, knife, pen and multitool. I am going to get UF rods for my Sharpmaker. I was thinking maybe a Victorinox? I'm totally stuck. Thanks

Nothing. Sounds like you've got enough stuff as is... and stuff becomes more useless as you grow older. Spend time with your parents - come up with something cool for all of you to do... maybe a trail hike through the woods or a day trip somewhere.

Sufler has made a great point but maybe one people usually dont appreciate until they get so old its too late.

I know you want to get your hands on 'stuff' when you're young and eager :D so heres some suggestions

- Maxpedition bag or wallet
- Case of CR123 batteries for your Fenix
- PowerPax CR123 holder
- Good quality belt
- Good quality clothing, new jacket, some expensive base layers, whatever you like but cant afford / justify day to day

After doing tons of research so your safe with them (because Li-ions can be very dangerous) get a nitecore i4 charger and some Li-ion 16340/RCR123's for your light so you can stop needing new CR123's.

Rechargeable batteries for your light is a great idea. Also, maybe a saddleback front pocket wallet. Great quality, and saves your back early. no sitting on a fat wallet.

No offense dude but he is only asking in terms of gifts. I'm sure his birthday will have plenty of other aspects-time with his family, fun plans with his friends-but his question is only about gifts.

OP- ANY Maxpedition product. I'd suggest checking out their bags. I have a Rollypolly Extreme that is perfect as a day-tripper bag. Other than that you could get one of their wallets and it would probably last you ten+ years. If you do end up getting a victorinox, check out the one-handed models. Still a victorinox but it could satisfy your knife craze.

I suppose a remington 870 is out of the question then.
For reference, how old are you turning?
Molle II ruck sack for camping?

Yes, good quality li-ion cells are an absolute must. They will quickly pay for themselves and will last a good long time. I recommend AW protected cells, they are excellent.

Firesteel, mini signal mirror, cyalume Chem lights, micro magnifying card, storm whistle, genuine US issue Canteen Cup, life straw. Just to name a few.

How about a watch?

want to know how I know you didn't understand the OP

How? Because his parents won't let him have a knife? Cause that's not really the same. Both of my daughters have guns, my 9 year old a mossberg bolt action and my younger daughter a 10/22 (backwards I know but my younger daughter has some fine-motor control issues and can't operate a bolt gun) yet neither of them are anywhere near being able to own a knife.

It's not really the same, a knife can be put in the pocket/carried around, a gun that a parent gives to a child is likely never to be in the possession of the child alone and is kept in a safe till the moment it's going to be used.

+1 to the above

Cereal - I disagree entirely. A boy needs to earn trust and develop personal respnsibility with something like a lockback or SAK before he gets a gun.
I have a daughter and already have a .22 for her even though she doesn't know it yet. ;)
A small knife CAN be put in a pocket but it doesn't HAVE to be. It can sit on Daddy's dresser or even in the safe.
In this case, I hope you're right for the OP's sake, I'm just betting against it.

YMMV
