Does anyone have any links to any "tactical" bowies? Not the Cowboy type bowies, but some modern looking ones?

Thanks
Justin

Becker Combat Bowie 9" - click here - I would definitely vouch for the durability and cutting power of this knife; good sheath too.

Cheers,

Mike

Go to the Manufacturer's forums, click on Swamp Rat's website & check out the Camp Tramp & Battle Rat. These are the top of the line in bladesteel & toughness - for their price range - or just about any other price range for that matter.

Okay, someone has already said Becker. So here are some more likely suspects by Cold Steel:
http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/s...qWWWCAT_4datarq=carbon&eqWWWCAT_1datarq=fixed - the Trailmaster, SRK, ODA, UWK & OSS all qualify.

Here's a list of Ontario Spec Plus knives: http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/s...ch=eqCATE CODEdatarq=ONT&eqKEYWORDdatarq=spec - The Marine Raider Bowie, Task Force military FB, Survival Bowie & Fighting knife SP6 (top of page 2) would also all qualify IMO...

Ek made a Combat Bowie model. They're no longer in production, but can be found on eBay and occationally on dealer websites.

check out the fehrman hoodhunter10 at survival.com

a true tactical bowie with integral cross guards, micarta handle and 3v steel.

and my personal fav. is the busse combat mr. mofo recurved fighter but these are no longer made.

The Recon Scout by Cold Steel is likely along the lines of you're thinking. the Trailmaster series(a bit larger) was spoken of kindly by non other than Bill Bagwell himself.

You get a lot for the money in these two.

Though the Bowie knife has been interpreted many ways in modern times, most of us who make them and study them really don't consider anything smaller than 9 1/2" a real Bowie. It loses a lot of the hacking, slashing, and back cut abilities a 'real' Bowie posesses. But I still wouldn't want to be attacked by someone wielding a 7 1/2" Recon Scout, either!

Ebbtide, that Bowie looks a bit familiar (I love it BTW). You wouldn't happen to be a fellow named Jerry VanCook would you?!?

BTW Mentor, I had never seen this knife 'in person' until last night - a friend of mine got one (Becker BK9) and I was checking it out. I really like it! However, I think it could benefit from a choil and / or a more pronounced guard. And personally, I am partial to rubber handles & smaller blades as far as an EDC fixed blade goes. Still, the Becker is a very fine blade IMO.

what about a Ka-Bar? Some of the newer ones are offered in D2. Although to my mind there's nothing wrong with 1095. A little more modern is the TAK/ RTAK by Ontario. I haven't handled the Ontario but I've got a Camillus USMC knife and it's good sized. If I need something bigger I'll grab a khukuri. You could always check out Bill Siegle, too.

Not sure you're likely to find one of these, but it works for me!!! :D

Why didn't I think of this. The SOG or clones

Too true. Check out SOG's bowies for ideas. The SOG "Recon" bowie is a fighting knife, and I love its lines. (Not sure it's really a "bowie.") The original SOG bowie is more conventional and bowie-like. (Always assuming there is an agreement on what makes a "bowie" a "bowie.")
