Ripstop....doesn't. Get holes poked in them, and burn easily, too.
I love cargo pants, but will take winter weight BDUs over any commercial offerings.
A couple of weeks ago, I finally got to check out the 5.11 pants, shirts, and vests, in person after reading so much about them.
I fail to see the appeal. They have a bunch of pockets...wow.
I know alot of people like them, but to me they're just more yuppie-wear.
If you just want tough pants, check out Carharrt and Dickie's heavyweight denim offerings. More durable than the canvas ones people make so much of, which wear alot quicker, especially the tool pockets.
Most of the stuff I see described as "heavy-duty" doesn't even come close. At least not to my way of thinking.
My work clothes get snagged on steel, rubbed on metal and concrete surfaces, have molten rock splattered on them, and metal handtools in and out of the pockets all the time.
I kind of doubt most people need clothes that will stand that kind of use. I wouldn't myself, but I don't care for the fire retardant pants that we are supplied, and buy my own.
You don't say what kind of environment/s you'll be using these in, but it made me wonder.
Do you want "heavy duty utility pants", or well-made casual wear?
There's a big difference.
