Tactical carry, Kershaw Blur...IMO...a video.

Not much there - except you aren't in favor of tacti-cool knives... which I have no problem with. I see them more for self defense when something has your other arm or leg in it's mouth - or you want into that HD TV box pretty fast. For defense, I have something a lot louder - with greater range. Presenting it, as with a knife, is considered brandishing - and can land you real jail time.

I like the plain edge Blur - my six year old plus examples are in nasty 440A steel, but I just won an S30V, so I'll be moving 'up' a bit in blade material. When the SG-2 and S30V variants came out, I reasoned that re-edging the 440A was easy with my Spyderco Sharpmaker. It is - and it is a common occurence with that steel as it doesn't hold an edge long. It's a great blade design & size for most typical EDC uses - from light bushcraft/woods stomping to opening mail. I find uses for a knife as a tool - and prefer a real knife, leaving my dedicated saws to have the teeth/serrations. I EDC-ed them for years, less the clip, which is easily reversed - if so desired. My sole complaint regards the roller-skate tape as inserts - new, it is abrasive! Of course, these are my opinions - and everyone is different. YMMV.

I guess I was assuming you'd mention some uses for the Blur.

Nice video, I really enjoy your ''down-to-earth'' style.
I also believe that a knife should only be used as a weapon in a last-ditch situation.
That' s why I generally carry pepperspray to defend myself, if the problem can' t be solved otherwise.

Archie, good vid, and some good common sense. No ninja mall mentality there.
I live in Indiana, and like some other states, we CCW our firearms. I would never draw my firearm unless I felt my life was in danger, likewise, the knife would be a last ditch item to rely on.
I feel the biggest weapon is your brain - and not doing or getting into those type situations to begin with is the best place to start. Being alert and paying attention helps.
Anyways, now you need to do a review on the knife............

I agree totally, a knife would be a last resort, in a kill or be killed situation.

However, I said it before in a previous thread and I will say it again. Self defense is not limited to human encounters.

I was viciously attacked by a large dog which later had to be put down because its owner had abused it. I suffered only minor injuries but I was very lucky that day. The same dog attacked an older lady and she was hospitalized.

Now if I had a knife that day(I was only 9 years old) the situation would have ended differently and I doubt the dog would be in any condition to attack anyone else.

Dog attacks are becoming a lot more common now, especially in large cities where kids think it's cool to own fighting breed dogs.

So if you want to carry a flashlight thats fine, it is better than nothing. I EDC a Surefire 6PL too.

But I prefer my Endura or my Paramilitary as a last resort

Damn I wish I had them that day

Archman,

Great video. I agree with you and the other post. I also like your knife reviews very much. Your review of the Spyderco Military was good. The Military is often compared to a BM 710.

Can you do a review of a BM 710 or a review of the Spyderco Military VS the BM 710?

Thanks

I like what 5.56 said, and I liked the video. Too many people think that it's "cool" to carry a knife in a SD capacity, when most wouldn't have the slightest idea of what to do with it. (I'm vividly remembering a scene from "Secondhand Lions" here.)
