Who is seriously train in knife-fighting here?

I'm really wondering about the benefit of the finger-groove in those combat/tactical knife.
Sure, you get a better grip. But you'd probably lose flexibility.
So, in knife-fighting environment does it a good or bad?

(And I think there're two styles of finger groove. . .only-one-finger as in Commander and AFCK, . . .and all-finger as in Sifu. Which one you prefer?)

Thanks for all reply.

If you are using a single edged knife, and train edge aware, it WILL limit your grip in two options: edge down/forward grip and edge front/backhand grip. Yes, this can be enough, but we're talking about limitations, not aplications. So, forget that edge up/forward grip for disembowling the bad guy

Also, deep finger grips, if you really want it, should be custom made in order to fit the user hand, in my opinion. I have smaller than average hands, and always felt sort of ankward using a knife with this feature.

It all depends on the knife design and the kind of finger grooves. They can be very limitating if you look for a versatile gripping position, but on a knife designed for a very specific grip, they will do. The size and shape of the grooves also matter.
A single finger groove, like in the AFCK, won´t do any harm, usually. I can handle mine in any position and can´t even remember the finger groove is there.
This is just commom sense. There are others on this Forum more qualified to answer your question than I am.

Single finger groove is a must unless the knife has an actual guard that will prevent the hand from slipping onto the blade.

I don't prefer lots of finger grooves, they just feel awkward and get in the way.

Don't worry so much about grip options and grip switching during combat.

IMHO it is over rated and risky.

PLEASE ALL UNDERSTAND I am not saying that it is usless and can't be done effectively, just that it is not AS important as most people think.

The most important feature of a "combat/fighting" knife is that it is comfortable for YOUR hand, and locks into place. It should just "feel" right in your hand. And it HAS TO BE SECURE enough where your hand will not slip onto the blade during full power stabs into a training target.

A lot of knives fall short there.
