Tactical Combat Tools?

Hey blade brothers, my little brother is an active member of the Army Rangers. He can be hard to get a hold of. I asked him what kind of knife and multi tool he was issued. He finally responded. A Gerber MT (ugh) not sure of the model but does it matter? It's a Gerber, and the give him a new one on demand. The only knife besides on the MT is a Tactical Combat Tools "Draco". He's got 1/75 Not that it matters but it's kind of cool. The knife is a recurve made of CPM-D2. I'm going to try to post a picture. Does TCT have a decent reputation? Is CPM-D2 tough? It sounds great but I don't know anything about metallurgy and you guys do.
I'm going to consider sending him a LM MT most likely a Rebar. Should I just let him blow through the Gerbers or send him a LM? If the knife is sub par I'll send him something I trust. Any and all input is appreciated!Screenshot_20180510-162745.jpg

I bet it's a Gerber mp600, that's what I got anyway.

The carbide inserts break easily on the Gerber. I do think he'd like a Leatherman better, the only issue is the mp600 is a flick to deploy multitool.

The only flick to deploy Leatherman is the oht which I had and used extensively and found pretty inferior to other Leathermans.

So basically if he can get used to another multitool that doesn't flick, I recommend the surge.

As far as the knife, ditch the d2 and grab a ratmandu or infidu/swatmandu.

My 2¢

I would love nothing more to get him a Busse but that is 3/4 months rent. The surge is a beast and a half but very heavy. Thank you for your .2 cents my friend!

Rmd can be had for 130... On the exchange if you are diligent.

As to the weight of the surge roughly a 4 ounce difference between the surge and the mp600. Well worth the added durability and functionality to me.

Anyway good luck, and godspeed to your brother.

CPM D2 is significantly tougher than normal D2. How tough is normal D2? Let's see... D2 at .156" hardened to 61RC with cryo...

As a run of the mill civilian the LM Surge is very heavy. I bet when you have that much weight on you daily in the Army. Four ounces isn't really that much.

If you don't want to spend alot how about a Becker BK16, or an ESEE 6. Both 1095 with a coating, pick your size for the ESEE if the 6 is too big. something from Ontario would also fit the bill. The ESEE and Ontario you can individualize/customize at TKC, give him something very unique for not alot of dough.
