Tactical fixed blade for a EDC?

I've pondered the idea of a smaller fixed blade knife for EDC if just only to break the boredom of pocket folders. The question for me has been the choice of sheaths. A fully enclosed flap type sheath or a form fitting kydex for just the blade? Are there any "retentive" style sheaths what will slow someone else from removing the blade? I guess there is always the frontal carry, strong or weak side.
Fixed blade carriers what say you?

Fixed blade for EDC is very good idea.
I'm fan of Strider.

I used a few months DBL. The appropriate length, tough tanto tip. You can use hardcore. Ease of sharpening.
I also used MFS, the knife will say that it has great cutting parameters.
Now I use SLCC, I know it's not entirely fixed, but the cutting edge is the size of the SMF, RC. Well it cut. It fits in your pocket and do not scare people.

A good sheath is what makes or breaks belt/boot carry. The better the sheath the greater variety of knives you can carry in it.

"Retentive" usually requires a dedicated sheath though. I'd say you have a few options:
• A snap-strap or flap on a conventional sheath.
• A tightly fitted kydex or boltaron custom sheath requiring a strong thumb snap-out.
• A 'locking' (spring-loaded) sheath knife package similar to my Tekna dive knife.

The best fixed small-knife package I know of where sheath bulk doesn't ruin the minimal profile of the knife for carry is my Buck CSAR-T Liason. The sheath is barely larger than the blade. Makes a great horizontal belt carry with the addition of two zip ties through the kydex eyes too. And very retentive. I think it would be fine and safe for pocket carry. Has a handle that lends to paracord or leather wrap if you are so inclined.

I don't consider this knife to be "tactical" but the carry method might be of interest...

I do a similar thing as sonnydaze with blade lengths up to about 5". I use an Esee 5/6 clip plate with a kydex or molded plastic sheath. My RMD is about perfect for this. Hardly notice it is there.

That's clever! Never thought of that.

When I think "tactical" fixed blade, I always think dagger. Legal in my state, but not legal in many. Years ago, I played with carrying a small Gerber boot knife. But it never really "took" since I tend not to think in terms of self defense with a knife. But it is a real reason to carry a knife especially if you know how to use it.

I often think about my knife(I always carry one) as a self defense tool. I have no training in knife fighting or defending against a knife and I think it would really end badly for me.

I have a smallish custom fixed blade 3.2" blade. I have a tight fitting kydex sheath (really snaps in). I wear it horizontally in the small of the back. Never even know it's there, even while driving. Also any loose fitting shirt covers it up completely.
