Tactical Flippers

I've been looking for a good tactical/flipper as my "go-to" knife whenever I decide to not carry a slip joint.

My old emerson benchmade/balisong stamped tanto has given me about of decade of solid use and I think it's about time to retire her. The serration's are gone and the angle of the blade is obtuse now.

Like many, I'd love to get my hands on an genIII Xm18 but it just doesn't seem feasible. What other options are there, if any? No serrations and similar in size to the Xm18. Or is waiting for an opportunity at the XM18 worth the wait?

Let me be the first to recommend a Darrel Ralph HTM Gunhammer. They come in bowie, drop point, and a modified recurve which Darrel calls Radian.

Here is my review of one of the bowies. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8033607#post8033607

And here is a picture (more in my review).

If you come to Blade this year, I'm sure you can handle a few. Darrel's gonna be there. I will too...with that knife.

I figured a bunch of people would list ZT. I used to own an 0350 myself. Great knife. Exceptional value for what you get.

ZTs, Galyean Pro series, DDR's, all come to mind. If you're looking for an inexpensive flipper, then I'd suggest the Buck Vantage Pro. At under $50 & with Bos HTed S30V, G-10 scales, & a low-rider clip, it sure packs alot of value in a relatively inexpensive package.

Oh boy... those Galyean Pros with that aircraft theme look great! And that DDR looks like it means business.

Thanks for all the recommendations... I guess I should have specified my budget is $400. Considering my long track record of owning benchmades (which I love), I really want to treat myself to custom this time around.

Check out Kershaw Volt, Junkyard Dog in Titanium. Get ZT, if you want heavy duty on a budget. Yuna, DDR, RJ Martin and bunch of other maker have great flipper designs. Just look around and find what you like.

Definitely look into Tim Galyean's Pro Series knives. Yuna's customs are also worth a look. Finally, I would suggest just about anything from RJ Martin. I've really delved into RJ's work lately and I'm loving it.

Again, thanks for the help. I emailed Tim on a small JYD so we'll see...

I just like the lines and the design the most. Without considering the strengths and weaknesses of blade designs, a straight edge is important to me for ease of sharpening. As much as I'm drawn to the others mentions this one also fits my budget and, according to most here, seems to be a great knife.

I got a JYD 2 Ti w/SG2 edge and what an awesome cutter! Fun to flip open and crazy sharp too.

check out wdz knives. i dont think he's making any right now cus of the blade show, but if you go he'll have some for sale, or you oculd just wait until after. i think his knives are the sex.

Brad Southard is another maker out there that makes a really nice flipper and uses IKBS in his knives. I have an AWT that I carry quite often. A couple of the things that make me really like it are the fact that the flipper is low profile, Brad also adds thumbstuds, and his pocket clips are very low profile and discreet.
