In the new TK, there is an article on the new EKI "hard wear" series. Thumbhole, Zytel, and "the most aggressive serrations I've ever seen"....Of course! it's a spyderedge! Look for the new issue, and at the photos...Has the author never seen an endura?--Joe

I will not be responding to flames, I have nothing against Ernie or

EKI...This is about the author..

Well, you can't forget that Spyderco was one of, if not the first, knife company to put serrations on a folding knife. (If they weren't the first to put them on a folding knife, they certainly are to first to successfully market them) Just like they were the first company to put clips on knives, or to come up with the hole in the blade for one-handed opening. Virtually every knife company out there is using one or more of Sal and company's ideas. I guess after awhile most authors figure everyone knows this and stop putting "inspired by Spyderco" in their articles. Plus, on a slight "aside" note, I know that Ernie Emerson and Spyderco have had a slight working relationship in the past. Some of Ernie's knives have had the Spyderco round hole, and somewhere around here I have an old Blade magazine that has an ad from Sal thanking those makers that respected Spyderco's copyrights and trademarks, and slaming those that didn't. Of course, being the class act that Sal is, he only named those makers in the ad that DID pay Spyderco royalties for the use of the hole. And Ernie's name was on the list. Very interesting considering that the Tactical Knives mag that was out at the same time featured an article on a well known knife-maker whose knives featured the round hole, but whose name DID NOT appear in Sal's ad.

Hope this helps some.

PS: Just trying to offer one explanation on the ommision, not to start a flame war!;)

I read that article and it was one of the worst "fluff" pieces I've read in TK...I sent a letter off to TK, but probably won't get anywhere...Just a horrrible article...

You're not the first to write. They'll ignore you like the rest of us and continue putting out drivel.

TK isn't going to mention Spyderco in their "article" (aka free advertisement) on a Emerson product designed to go head to head with the Endura. The Emerson is designed to take away some of those FRN tatical sales from the Endura, but TK won't do any direct comparison, since both companies are customers.

Knife magazines are horrible when it comes to pandering fluff. TK is about the worst in their reviews, particularly since Randall left. Most reviews are so glowing, its hard to believe there is any knife or design they don't wind up liking. Lots of nice fighting poses for the adolescent boys though. Some of TK tests are jokes, it appears they get the knife for free and don't want to return it with any scratches.

Blade touts itself as the high quality grandaddy, but they have at least two "survey" articles pre issue that are nothing more than additional advertising for their big customers. I just about puked when they put the Turber-Boss-WOW butterfly on their cover. The butterfly knife article could have been more factual if they'd just done a google search and spent 4 hours reading the results. There recent article on Joan of Arc, left me going HUH? What's the Point? Sometimes they have some good articles, but it's hard to find the wheat in the chaff.

I don't subscribe to any knife rag, because every time I buy one, there is usually at least a few articles that are just sycophantic mindless raves. I only buy about every third issue of any knife magazine, I'm just too cheap to give them more money, but too much of a knife knut to stop buying all together.
