That little Moran style pilots knife that I had a Blade is in TK this month!:D Bad news is that it has to compete with one of Mr Hanson's fossil ivory beasts.;)

This Hanson was in Tactical Knives about 6 months ago as well. Go figure.

Terrill Hoffman told me a couple of years ago at the Ohio Classic show that the editors were looking to squeeze more "traditional" custom knives in the book. It looks like they are really trying. Five of the articles from this issue were about traditonal style knives, including one article about recreating 10th Century German/Scandinavian tactical blades.:D I will say that the magazine's "advertorial" policy has definately improved. Didn't they run a glowing review of the J. Lightning "Razr" a number of years back?:barf: This month, they have reviews on pieces from regular advertisers like P.J. Tomes and Mike Mann. Quite an improvement IMO.

I don't get TK but might have to change that. There is a two page spread on customs in the center of each issue and I've been lucky to get a few of mine in there. The customs featured here are usually not tacticals. Every time they plan to use a DH3, Steve Dick (editor) sends me an email, asking if the specs are correct, along with an image of the knife. Steve is really on top with checking the facts! They also usually send me a copy of the issue, haven't got the latest though.

Following this issue with Don's and Joe's blades (my, those photos just fell in his lap! ;)) along with some others, I shot a slew of hardcore tacticals at the NYCKS for Steve. I won't show those, nor are they anything but single sideviews on a grey background to be extracted later.

Steven IS on top of things. His superiors chide him that the fancy stuff isn't relevant (?) to their readership. I think everyone likes a fancy knife, no matter. :D

Here's another forged piece that made the KI tactical customs center spread 6-8 months ago. Perhaps Steve's just trying to capture a piece of the traditional customs collecting market. I guess a magazine can never have too many subscribers/readers.
Good business decision in my opinion.

I agree that Steven is really going the extra mile. IIRC, Terrill told me that the thinking was that the "outdoorsman" market had a lot potential for the magazine and that was one of the reasons for expanding the scope of what they were putting on the pages. Their open advertising rates would indicate that the circulation is pretty good for that product, so something must be working. The good news is that maybe, just maybe, the guys who spend lots of money on products like Busse knives and the super high end tactical customs may not have such an extremely narrow focus like the serious Randall collectors have traditionally had.

The DH3 Joe mentions is this bowie/fighter from Don from Blade '09. I picked up a TK magazine this week and really enjoyed it.

Some observations from the tactical customs pages...Coop has 6 of 8 images shown, and we have to appreciate that! I just wish they could be in color instead of B & W.

Plus, when I think tactical, I think straight stock removal and stainless for the most part. It is good to see a damascus bowie from Bob Crowder, Joe Mandt's W2 'Moran style combat knife', a DHIII W2 fighter, Dan Farr's CruForge V fighter, and a Brian Wagner's A2 PDW combat.

I am glad Steven is including these in his magazine under combat knives.

HA!!! You might want to subscribe......YOU ARE in the knife business you know!!! :D

BTW-I got there (NYCKS) at the same moment as Steve did........and for the first time in who knows how long, his company dropped the ball and they didnt have a table......So the Steve D. stuck him in a little out of the way corner.......I told him...at least it wasnt the bathroom.....and he mentioned he might get more traffic there!!!!
