I get email (advertisements) from knife dealers daily. When I see the words tactical or survival in the "Re", I just delete them and don't even open them. What say you?

Most knives can be used for both tactical or survival reasons.

A knife is a tool.......
Most knives advertised as survival or tactical are trying to create an image to create interest.
In history and even now, knives made from files, leaf springs.
They were made out of need and the needed purpose.
Advertising stories maybe fun to read or get a newbys attention. But a knowledgeable knife person will pick one that will do the job and has a history of being useful.
One word Kabar.

What say me? I never thought a topic about spam emails would show up here  I have a dedicated inbox for online shopping so the spam doesn't go to my main inbox. As for the knives, I definitely have knives I would not use in a tactical or survival situation, but others I would. I think they are mostly interchangeable, but there are some I would say are better used as tactical than survival.

What’s even more amusing is visiting a museum and looking at tools from antiquity that people used for survival and warfare. The “tactical” BK9 Combat Bowie I hang on my belt just to hike is more robust than a Greek short sword or Renaissance off-hand dagger. If I ever get enough set aside in the toy fund I would love to pick up an RMJ Loggerhead, and any Viking would have drooled over an axe like that.

I saw an anachronistic cartoon of Robin Hood holding a modded Glock with an extended mag, laser sights, and a flashlight. An outraged person says, “But you always use a bow!” Robin says, “And I used to have to wipe myself with leaves too.” I honestly wonder what he or Otzi would think of our quarter inch thick blades of super steel—would it be envy or a head shake?

Call me old fashioned, but back in the 80s when we needed to survive we knew where to turn.

Well, when it comes to names and marketing it gets very confusing. Millions of tactical and survival knives manufactured and sold for how many truly tactical or survival occasions?

I only care if a knife has good quality, value, and the design I like, and don't really pay attention what descriptions they use for advertising. It is just marketing buzzwords they use to attract attention of people who aren't certain what they need and want to look cool on social media.

But it is hard to disagree that it has very discouraging effect when a company spams with stories like buy now this murdered out, overpriced, too thick to cut, barely sharpened prybar that black ops ghost recon misfits squad we just made up used for sentry removal in the jungles of some fictional third world country.

If the email header don't say it's a "a good old fashioned carbon steel blade." I delete it the mail right right away and throw out the computer.

I only open knife email that has the word "zombie" in the Re line.

I am covered for most tactical and survival situations. But a zombie apocalypse? Still planning and equipping on that one.

imo, the use of the word "survival"
is a play of word association
targeted at those who are have
a state of mind that constantly
sees an inadequacy as to the amount
of one's personal life preserving material.
in this context, the word "survival"
is a subliminal trigger.
it lives on as a key knife marketing term
because we mortals, fear for our lives.
on the contrary,
any email subject heading with
"Bear Grylls Knife" in it
is definately something
which i would instantly relegate
to the infernal depths of the spam box :-)

I'm still getting ready for the Zombie invasion when those tactical and survival knives might come in handy. I have my sword sharp and ready.

I have to admit, the terms Bushcraft and Woodcraft still grab my attention. I love a good salesman!!

I never really considered email advertising from knife retailers spam. But I like spam every now and them. ;)

I open and scan almost all the knife dealer marketing/sales emails I get sent.
I wouldn't be too interested in one titled 'classic old time folders' or 'kitchen knife specials' .
