Anybody here have some reviews on Tactical Pens?

Lately I've been interested in getting a Tactical Pen, but don't know what to get. I don't want to pay a fortune for one either, try to keep it under $35.00.

I've been looking at a few on Amazon.com, seen some Schrade, Smith and Wesson, etc.

I seen a Smith and Wesson that was in my price range that looked good.

Crayola Crayon Pens come in different colors. I belief you can buy them as a set. Cool Silver, High Visibility Orange and Military green. They are disguised as crayons, but are actually fully functional pens.

mil-tac very nice solid pen though the refills are a pain to get in my area, next choice would be the old style benchmade .

they both write very nice, the bench is a little heavier and has a sharper point.
I like the mil-tac and use it on a daily basis, mines battle ship gray (very sweet color) :D

I like the CountyComm pen after losing my Benchmade. Better, more discreet, and works very well in all aspects.

No disrespect intended and not trolling...
But 'why' a tactical pen for $35? What advantage does it provide over something like a BicStick? That is virtually unbreakable. It can be driven through a pine board so fine for striking, only cost 35 cents! Other than looks and concept, what does a 'Tactical Pen' do for you?
Please, genuine answers only. I really don't understand...

It can be used as a weapon and its legal to carry most anywhere. Im sure you could use a bickstick as a weapon, but its plastic and probably wouldn't cause as much damage as a heavier metal pen with a sharp pointy tip.

Have you driven a Bic Stick through a pine board? It's easier said then done with a slick plastic barrel pen. The weight and stiffness of a "tactical pen" are also a huge help if you want to "thump" someone with it or pry their fingers off something. ;) Lateral loads on a Bic Stick will either bend it or break it and the lack of weight means it really has no "thump".

Next time you have a used up Bic Stick, try to jab it through something pretty solid (hard heavy duty cardboard works) and watch it slip in your hand or bruise the palm of your hand.

I've been carrying a Schrade for a long time and I recommend it highly.

I agree, i couldn't see putting a bic stick through a pine board at all. Its just too slick and flimsy.

I've thought of adding some tactical pen reviews to my website, but I can only afford the "cheap" ones right now. I have 4 or 5 models and for my money I like the Fury and original Smith & Wessen pens. If you need something less weapony looking, the new steel sharpie is nice.

I carry one of the old style Smith and Wesson tac pens with the screw on cap.

I have thankfully never had to use it for SD but it is a pretty pointy and well constructed device.
They say it is to be used as a kubotan but it looks like it would plunge straight into someone's chest cavity so I would consider it more of a makeshift shank.
Same thing for the Benchmade pens.

If you use a pen as weapon that is marketed as a tactical pen there is a real change the police/the court will view carrying that pen as carrying a weapon disguised as a pen.

As for legal to carry, in quite a few places that is up to the police.

There are plenty of normal pens that are made out of steel. Some of them are pretty affordable.

I know your budget may not allow for this - but after trying several I ended up liking and edc'ing the Surefire pen 2. I think it's worth the extra money, and it never gets looked at hard.

I'm in and out of courthouses and county office buildings (metal detectors and guards) all the time and I never once got questioned.

It's really heavy duty yet comfortable.

Some of the Fisher Bullet pens on Amazon are around $10-12.
Non-tactical looking, strong, can be used as a kubaton in a pinch, and write like nothing else, under adverse conditions.

Have a look at the CRKT Tao pen as well. I think it looks pretty normal, but it is made of anodized aluminum. It has a threaded cap that can be placed on the tail end. I'm partial to the matter black and the OD green versions. It looks to be priced right too.
