OK
I am looking for a urban tactical tool/Axe which could also be used as a survival hatchet.

I have seen some where a gas turn off piece is built in as well as other features which would be quite handy in case of a disaster.

I want something like that but where it also would not kill your hands if you had to use it as an axe cutting a tree or some wood.

I want something that can go through hell and back

Thanks!

J, then i have the company for you.

They make the most battle-tested tactical hawks out there... The US Military uses these currently, in some units and squads. You want toughness, this is the company to go with. I cant wait to get my VTAC after xmas..

Dont take my word for it, ask Dusty... He has the VTAC (if I remember correctly...) He can attest to the ATC's stellar hawk construction far better than I.

If weight and wait times are not a consideration, then for $200 or you can get a K5 either spike or poll. Heavy, tough but unknown delivery.
If price is a consideration, I would recommend both Ranger Knives RD and Entry Tool - very versatile http://www.rangerknives.com/TomaHawks/index.html
for light weight and tthrowing, an ATC VTAC works well, easy on the wallet also.
my $0.02

Would a traditional hatchet, rather than a "tactical" tomahawk, not suffice? IMO, a hammer poll would be necessary for a "tool". And a good hatchet would probably be better if you actually needed to cut something, such as wood. In addition, I'm a bit skeptical that a tactical hawk would be any more formidable a weapon than a hatchet of comparable size/weight.

I have a dozen of the ATC VTAC's in different variations and several other brands. The one I always keep going back to is the newer version of the ATC VTAC its light, strong , and a heck of alot of fun.
If you want to cut alot of wood get a axe ! If you want to have some fun get a VTAC...

OK sorry a few things...

1) On the ATC site, which is the VTAC? I could not find anything there???

2) What is the K5 and where can I find it?

3) I like the Ranger Knives entry tool! I saw that once before and could not find the link to it!

I am pretty sure I am going with the Ranger Knives Entry tool.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

Anyone have and really use one?

Whats the consensus here (if any) in deciding between a K5, Ranger Tactical, and the ATC VTAC if one wants the most versatile and all around best tool for a bug out bag, tactical situation, or handy campsite companion? Expected uses are chopping wood, entry tool, prybar, large animal field dressing/butchering, and maybe with the Ranger use as a handle to turn handles/valves. Any update on the K5 availability - anybody got one recently? Let me know if this should be a new topic, but it seemed to be close to the original question.

The ATC commanche's are so nice looking and their cost reflects that... That being said, I dont know if i could slam that thing into something... Its too pretty. haha.

Get a VTAC!

DUsty is the Commanche pretty comfortable as far as weight goes? It appears as if it wold be slightly heavy just from looking at it...
